The Junior Varsity game was sooooooo good ! How good was it ? Good enough that they considered not playing the Varsity game afterwards….

Carroll County JV Boys πŸ‘¦ Basketball πŸ€ won a Three Rivers District contest Tuesday night πŸŒ™ that was as Good as its Gets. The final score reads 58-55 in overtime over Floyd County but the game was full of amazing plays along the way.

Floyd County… 10….16….11…11….7 = 55

Carroll County..13….8…..13….14…10= 58

For the first time this season Carroll County struggled with the passing lanes as the Buffaloes seemed like they were playing defense with four arms instead of just the normal two.

FCHS turned up the defense pressure in the second quarter to turn an early deficit into 26-21 advantage at the halftime break.

The Cavaliers huffed and puffed throughout the third quarter but still was on the wrong end of the scoreboard, 37-34 with seven minutes left to play. The first of Sportscenter Top 10 plays ▢️ took place near the end of the quarter.

Junior Varsity Quarterback and Point Guard πŸ’‚β€β™‚οΈ went all State Farm bundling as Blake Reed(10 points) launched a 25 yard bomb πŸ’£ that was corralled by Hayden Jackson under the basket 🧺. Jackson (11 points) somehow managed to keep his balance long enough to make the much needed bucket.

Dane Leonard (10 points) and Colton Gravley (Game High 20 points) teamed up on a perfect give and go to finally put the Cavs back on top 41-40. The teams would go back and forth for the remainder of regulation with the key πŸ”‘ being how much Floyd County struggled with their Free Throws down the stretch. Zero for six in the final minutes for the visitors allowed CCHS to lead 48-46 before the πŸƒ forced the 3:30 of overtime with a late basket.

Reed took charge in the opening minutes as the Sophomore went to the goal for a lay-up and on the following possession drained a 15 foot floater to put the Cavaliers up 52-48. Reed further pushed FCHS to the brink with a back door pass to Jackson for an AND 1 !!!

Floyd County answered back and then some,  right down to the 60 foot game tying shot that banged off the backboard as the final buzzer sounded.

Don’t take my word for it as Coach Jason Stockner also thought it was a pretty exciting game…

” Wow! What an exciting game! Great win for the guys. They stayed poised under pressure down the stretch and made enough plays to get the victory.

We went through a stretch in the second quarter where we turned the ball over and Floyd took the lead into halftime. Very proud of the guys to battle back in the second half and chip away at their lead to eventually take the lead in the fourth quarter.

Even though the game went into overtime before took the lead for good. Excellent experience for us and sweeter to get the OT win!”

Yes, they did go ahead and play the Varsity game but that’s the next story..

Keeping track of the Calender can get a little tricky from time to time in the effort to fulfill #2 on our List of 3….

Every now and then I find myself losing track of what’s next on the list and would be in a World 🌎 of hurt without the Calender on my S9 cellphone – Yes, very outdated for sure.

Friday night it was assisting Jason Stockner with coverage for his Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team.

Then there was a short break for the Hall of Fame Ceremony. Immediately after it was back out there for Anthony Barnes and Allen Worrell with coverage of the Varsity Basketball game.

Saturday was blocked 🚫 off in hopes of helping Eddie and Dakota Walls capture their big day over at the Pigg River Community Center.

Sunday was the day to be there for Vickey Ritchie and her Special Olympics Basketball players as we helped her host her annual Basketball πŸ€ Classic.

Monday was spent trying hard to add anything possible for Head Coach West Long and his Senior Wrestlers.

After doing what I could to enhance the experience for the Wrestling program, I scooted back to Laurel Fork and turned on the computer πŸ–₯ to watch the second half of the Girls πŸ‘§ Varsity Basketball game so there could be something available on their efforts, along with the Junior Varsity team.

Now its 4:00 pm on Tuesday afternoon and the schedule πŸ“… says its time to head over to The Hill for the Floyd County – Carroll County High School 🏫 Junior Varsity Basketball πŸ€ game. The group of young Cavaliers that play for Jason Stockner and Ryan Largen are a fun group to watch, so much so that I would do it for free…….oh wait, (Insert Laughter)

The second of our three beliefs is that if you have a skill set that can improve the lives of others, you should lend it out as often as possible. God blessed me with three Skill Sets, two of which are writing ✍ and speaking. If you are going to ask others to lend out their skill sets, you better make sure to lead by example !

Let’s end with a bit of self depreciation, when God was passing out spelling I thought it was smelling so I ran as far away as I could…..

Tonight the challenge will be to create a fun story for the JV team and their parents and follow that up with a Varsity story for The Carroll News.

Not sure if anyone else attended more than one of the above events because there’s not a great deal of crossover involved. We search for ways to play Robin to someone’s Batman…

Welcome πŸ™ to Tuesday! πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒ Time to protect The Hill from the hard charging Buffaloes while the Swim πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ Teams head to Abingdon…

Floyd County will be all in tonight as we begin the final two weeks of Three Rivers District Boys πŸ‘¦ Basketball πŸ€. The Buffaloes dropped two games during the first half of league play which means that if they hope to contend for the regular season title they will need to play near perfect hoops.

Glenvar and Carroll County are tied in the loss column with one setback. Both teams defeated Floyd County so they have the tiebreakers.

The Cavaliers are 5-1 & 16-1 entering the contest tonight. Floyd sits at 6-2 with Alleghany at 5-2 as each of the three teams is looking up at Glenvar (6-1).

The next 14 days should be exciting as the regular season stretch run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ officially begins tonight. Six games in the league βž• a potential trip over to Galax remain for Head Coach Anthony Barnes and his troops.

Floyd County will be playing tonight as if their regular season depends on it because it does. Suffering a third loss at this point would make things all but over in regards to the District race 🏁.

Β  Bryce Smoot exploded over there and we came away with the hard fought victory. Tonight our Cavaliers need to have a Home Court advantage if they are going to complete the regular season sweep once again.

Bring your noise, Bring your energy and if at all possible, bring it at 5:30 for the Junior Varsity game. We know that our neighbors to the East travel well so while Coach Barnes and Kris Richardson focus on getting our players ready, let’s make sure we do our part !

Looking forward to seeing how the Swim πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ teams do down in Abingdon as well!
