Glenvar is in town and we are closing in on the opening Tap. Per the norm, there will be a running πββοΈ Blog during the games and later tonight we will produce to game stories.
Christy is back in town so I’m back to sitting behind the scorers table.

There are few things in life that are more valuable than a quality conversation and I had that in spades β οΈ this afternoon down at Pizza Perfect.
Dr. Oliver McBride is going to be a large role in our upcoming Banquet and we used our 90 minutes to compare notes π on our Agenda π.
Besides participating in the Town Hall conversation, Dr. McBride will be sharing his thoughts on Tammy Quesenberry, Dr Mark Burnette and Shannon Dalton.
Β We are now just over one month away from March 2nd and I am excited about the opportunity to share the stage with so many people who I have Top Shelf respect for !
The next 72 hours will present Anthony Barnes and his 15-0 (4-0) Cavaliers the opportunity to create some space between them and the other six teams in the Three Rivers District standings. Both second place Glenvar (5-1) and seventh place James River (0-5) come to town.
At the end of the week Carroll County will have completed the first half of the District schedule and will either be sitting atop the standings or looking up at Glenvar as the Highlanders have already played Patrick County for the second time.
Both Glenvar and the Cavaliers defeated Floyd County (5-2) with the Highlanders winning 61-59 at home while CCHS prevailed 78-66 under the mounted Buffalo π.
The most recent comparison is that both teams just made their annual trek down to Alleghany High School (3-2). The Cougars prevailed 58-55 over Glenvar eight days ago and on Monday night CCHS closed out a back and forth game with a 9-2 run πββοΈ in a 72-65 victory.
While it has been fun to watch the 15 straight wins to open the season, tonight has so much more riding on it, outside of victory #16. A home win tonight gives Carroll County a two game lead β the tiebreaker against the entire league.
Friday night π should be a fun night as the Hall of Fame ceremony will take place between the Junior Varsity and Varsity games against James River. But if you are going to look at Friday night as dessert π¨, then Wednesday night is about eating your vegetables.
Β Come out to the Gym tonight and take in #1 versus #2 hoops. If you do, make sure that you are in your seat πΊ at 5:30 as your 10-4 Junior Varsity team laces them up first. They will be facing a tough 1 loss team and can use the support…
Carroll had a 3-2 victory over Fort Chiswell tonight in our third match of the season.

Join us for Senior Night on Thursday at 5:45 pm in the auditorium before our home match against Grayson.

Tonight was hard fought on a lot of fronts. All Around had a lot of obscure facts that kept answers at bay and scores low. Connor Beasley was able to secure the win in toss up. English was out to an early lead and played with much more confidence tonight.
Math took the lead and ran with it. Ethan Edwards had several personal points in toss up. Science played close for part of directed, but finally broke away and came close to their season goal of scoring 100 points.
Β Β Β Β Heartbreak of the night came in Social Studies. The team was fresh off a win against Galax (who hadn’t lost in over two years), but fell tonight in a flurry of pirate and geography questions that went unanswered. Amid the comeback attempt, Jacob Roberts had his best personal night ever, nailing multiple toss ups.
Senior night is up next at our last home meet on Thursday. We’ll be hosting Grayson County in the auditorium at 6 pm, senior recognitions at 5:45 pm.
Congratulations πππ and as always, Thank You π Mrs. Dalton !
Glenvar – Callie Harris and Raylee Goins led the way with 12 points each as Carroll County rolled past Three Rivers District foe Glenvar, 45-27. The victory comes at the end of an upward swing for the squad and Head Coach Howard Mayo.
” The girls played well, especially in the 3rd quarter, I thought the 3rd quarter was out of the best quarter all year,” said Mayo. ” We were able to use the press to generate some easy baskets. We had 8 people score for the us tonight with this being the first time all year we had 2 double figure scorer. Hopefully we will continue to see growth through the rest of the year .”
The teams stormed out of the gate from the opening jump, taking a 9-0 lead. The defense was playing with a laser focus and it led to holding the Highlanders off the board until 1:05 remained in the quarter.
Glenvar pushed back and closed out the first half within 15-14. Both teams went after the ball aggressively all night, leading to a large number of tieups. At the break it looked like this one was going to come down to the final possession.
All of that changed when the Lady Cavaliers stormed out of the lockeroom. By the time the dust settled Carroll County netted 24 points across eight minutes. It was equally important to note that they held the home team to just four points in the third quarter.
Harris and Goins both scored eight points after the break with Goins dropping two of the five made 3-pointers for Carroll County. Natalie Burress (eight points) added two from downtown and CC Mitchell accounting for the final trey.
There was a ninth Lady Cavalier in uniform Tuesday night as Aaliyah Hampton was wearing number 32 after being called up from the Junior Varsity team. Hampton played the final 4:57 and collected a defensive rebound.
Kenzie McMillian added four points and was joined in the scoring column by a trio of teammates with two points. Madison Coleman, Laynie-Jo Leonard and Kenzie Young each contributed to the victory.
Carroll County JV did not play Tuesday night as the Highlanders do not have a team this season.
