Radford – Carroll County faced the Sophomore guard that is destined to capture the title of Three Rivers District player of the Year before graduation and Kearson Carter proved to be quite the challenge. Carter led the Bobcats (4-5) to a 52-31 victory Wednesday night.
While the team fell short on the night there were some bright spots for the Lady Cavaliers. The easiest one to point to was Carroll County winning the 4th quarter by an 11-9 margin.
Radford jumped out to an early 16-2 lead and just when it appeared the game could get out of hand, the Lady Cavaliers began to settle down. After the early deficit they played the Bobcats to a 36-29 score.
Callie Harris led the attack for Head Coach Howard Mayo with nine points. Both Raylee Goins and Kenzie McMillan added seven points on the night.
” I thought we keep playing hard we need to continue to get better at the fundamentals like jump stopping, ball fakes and using both hands, ” said Mayo.” I thought we did a good job of continuing to attack the basket as we shot 14 free throws for the game.”
Carter is averaging 20 points per game but the challenge for Radford is to find a second scorer but they made up for it by playing a full court press throughout the contest.
Goins led the charge in the fourth quarter by scoring five of her seven points, including a three point play that was part of an 8-2 finish for Carroll County. The two belonged to Carter as she made sure that the Bobcats maintained a comfortable lead.
The good news for Carroll County is that it will be a while before they have to face a scorer like Carter again but opponents looking to press against them will continue. Madison Coleman and Laynie-Jo Leonard rounded out the scoring with four points apeace.
The Lady Cavaliers will have a quick turnaround as they will welcome Alleghany to The Hill on Friday night. The teams will meet for the second time in six days but this time it will be the Cougars looking to shake off a long and cold 🥶 bus ride.
Carroll County JV Girls entered the contest at Radford Wednesday night hoping to build on the momentum of their win last Saturday at Alleghany.
While the effort was there against the Bobcats (5-1), the team ended up on the short end of the scoreboard, 53-12. The team did have spurts of strong play, especially in the third quarter (9-4) but the 13-0 closeout over the final seven minutes made the final Tally wider than most had hoped.
Aaliyah Hampton led the team in scoring with 6 points and Brea Campbell, Madison Fain and Hayden Heflin each added two points. The team will look to try and sweep Alleghany as the Cougars travel to The Hill on Friday night 🌙
We hope to be able to add some thoughts from the Coaches at some point and if we do we will add it here.
Effort was there, good shots were taken, just didn’t have as many fall as they would like.
Friday night 🌙 will be a better Day as the learning process continues.
Those of us that hang out across the Boulevard received a much needed shot in the arm when our beloved Tammy Tobler walked into the Gymnasium at Radford High School 🏫 tonight.
Quick math says 5 Varsity players and 2 Junior Varsity players ➕ 7 sets of parents, ➕ myself needed to see 👀 Tammy as a number of us had not been in her company since the funeral service for her late Husband, Jeff Tobler.

These same photos 📷 were included in the night 🌙 long running 🏃♂️ Blog but that one never gets a high number of reads. Tonight was special for a number of us and we collectively say THANK YOU 🙏 Mrs Motley for bringing our Friend to us and then getting her home 🏡.
We talked about getting the Band back together ❤ next Friday night on The Hill but for now, to borrow a line from an old Eagles song 🎵🎶 ” It was a Peaceful Easy Feeling ” in the Bobcat Den….
Coach Long seemed to be in good spirits on his way down I-81 earlier tonight, ahead of his Dual meet. We will be adding more on tonight when it becomes available but in the meantime we can share the Big News about February 3rd.
Schedule changes have been a challenge this year, especially in regards to Home meets. But now we can talk about 2/3/25 being a Senior Day celebration on The Hill! Looking forward to helping out Coach Long with his big event.
If you are a Wrestling fan, please check back to this post 📫 for information about tonight in Abingdon. In the meantime, let’s get pumped 💪 about February 3rd !!
