This just in : Glenvar Junior Varsity can shoot the 3 and the 1 loss Highlanders rode the wave to an 84-53 victory over our Cavaliers.

We knew going in that Glenvar had only ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard only once this season but we didn’t know their secret recipe. We certainly aren’t wondering that anymore.

Glenvar connected from deep a mind boggling 18 times with 9 different players recording at least one of those shots. Landen Rakes led the charge with 7 makes, finishing up with a game high 22 points.

First let’s take a look at the thoughts of Head Coach Jason Stockner :

” We got off to a good start. We were breaking their press and making our shots on the offensive end.

Β Β  Once we missed some shots and started turning the ball over we were hit with an avalanche of threes and couldn’t make enough twos to keep up. We did come out of halftime with a lot of energy and outscored them in the third quarter. Definitely need to defend three point shooters better.

Β Β Β  Looking forward to getting back on the court against James River on Friday.”

Β  There’s no hiding from the final score but there were brightspots. Number one being that the Cavaliers never stopped playing.

Β  We can start with the 3rd quarter – coming out of the break down 52-30, CCHS battled back to take the period 15-14. Four different players scored during the stretch, led by Blake Reed with five of his 12 points and Colton Gravley added four of his team high 17 points.

Hayden Jackson poured in 9 points and Dane Leonard contributed 7 more with the remaining eight points coming from four Cavs adding one basket 🧺 each.

CCHS led 10-8 early but three consecutive 3’s erased the advantage quickly.

Whatever level of Basketball πŸ€ you are playing, from Rec Ball through High School 🏫, when a team connects on 18 3-pointers you are going to be running up hill. The best news on the night πŸŒ™ is it only counts as one loss.

Lunch with the Doctor is good for the Soul !

There are few things in life that are more valuable than a quality conversation and I had that in spades ♠️ this afternoon down at Pizza Perfect.

Dr. Oliver McBride is going to be a large role in our upcoming Banquet and we used our 90 minutes to compare notes πŸ“ on our Agenda πŸ“‹.

Besides participating in the Town Hall conversation, Dr. McBride will be sharing his thoughts on Tammy Quesenberry, Dr Mark Burnette and Shannon Dalton.

Β  We are now just over one month away from March 2nd and I am excited about the opportunity to share the stage with so many people who I have Top Shelf respect for !

First place Showdown tonight on The Hill as second place Glenvar comes to town to challenge the undefeated Cavaliers  πŸ€. JV starts at 5;30

The next 72 hours will present Anthony Barnes and his 15-0 (4-0) Cavaliers the opportunity to create some space between them and the other six teams in the Three Rivers District standings. Both second place Glenvar (5-1) and seventh place James River (0-5) come to town.

At the end of the week Carroll County will have completed the first half of the District schedule and will either be sitting atop the standings or looking up at Glenvar as the Highlanders have already played Patrick County for the second time.

Both Glenvar and the Cavaliers defeated Floyd County (5-2) with the Highlanders winning 61-59 at home while CCHS prevailed 78-66 under the mounted Buffalo πŸƒ.

The most recent comparison is that both teams just made their annual trek down to Alleghany High School (3-2). The Cougars prevailed 58-55 over Glenvar eight days ago and on Monday night CCHS closed out a back and forth game with a 9-2 run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ in a 72-65 victory.

While it has been fun to watch the 15 straight wins to open the season, tonight has so much more riding on it, outside of victory #16. A home win tonight gives Carroll County a two game lead βž• the tiebreaker against the entire league.

Friday night πŸŒ™ should be a fun night as the Hall of Fame ceremony will take place between the Junior Varsity and Varsity games against James River. But if you are going to look at Friday night as dessert 🍨, then Wednesday night is about eating your vegetables.

Β  Come out to the Gym tonight and take in #1 versus #2 hoops. If you do, make sure that you are in your seat πŸ’Ί at 5:30 as your 10-4 Junior Varsity team laces them up first. They will be facing a tough 1 loss team and can use the support…

CCHS – 4 wins, 0 losses (-)

Glenvar 5/1 (tied for 1st)

Floyd County 5/2 (1/2 game back)

Alleghany 3/2

Radford 2/4

All Around 45-35
English 35-70
Math 50-30
Science 83-25
Social Studies 46-65

Join us for Senior Night on Thursday at 5:45 pm in the auditorium before our home match against Grayson.

Tonight was hard fought on a lot of fronts. All Around had a lot of obscure facts that kept answers at bay and scores low. Connor Beasley was able to secure the win in toss up. English was out to an early lead and played with much more confidence tonight.

Math took the lead and ran with it. Ethan Edwards had several personal points in toss up. Science played close for part of directed, but finally broke away and came close to their season goal of scoring 100 points.

Β Β Β Β  Heartbreak of the night came in Social Studies. The team was fresh off a win against Galax (who hadn’t lost in over two years), but fell tonight in a flurry of pirate and geography questions that went unanswered. Amid the comeback attempt, Jacob Roberts had his best personal night ever, nailing multiple toss ups.

Senior night is up next at our last home meet on Thursday. We’ll be hosting Grayson County in the auditorium at 6 pm, senior recognitions at 5:45 pm.

Congratulations πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ and as always, Thank You πŸ™ Mrs. Dalton !
