15 miles is the distance separating the two High Schools, making it a bit like UNC – Duke University. Our Junior Varsity team sits at 9-3 and the Varsity at 13-0 heading into the third attempt to play the rivalry game. The Galax Varsity shows a record of 0-7 on Max Preps but you know what they say about rivalry games – toss out the records.
Β Thanks to Mr. Josh, I will be back at the Scorers Table and I’ve been practicing the Starting lineup for Jason Stockner.
Alleghany scored the games first point and watched helplessly as Carroll County(2-7) put together a 13-0 run πββοΈ to close out the opening frame on the way to a 37-24 victory Friday night on The Hill.
Aaliyah Hampton led the offense with 13 points but there was plenty of teammates joining in the scoring column. Ashton Rodrigue tallied eight points and Bree Campbell added seven points.
As impressive as the opening quarter was, the fact that CCHS never relinquished the lead after the Cougars stormed back. AHS pulled within 17-15 early in the third quarter when Hampton connected on a long jumper to keep the Lady Cavaliers in the lead.
Madison Fain ( 4 points) and Rodrigue added baskets π§Ί to close out the third quarter at 23-17. In the final 7:00 CCHS outscored the Cougars 14-7. Two points per minute for a team that is learning to play confident on the offensive end is quite the statement.
Madison Adkins ( 3 points) and Lily Goad (2 points) rounded out the scoring on the night. The 37 points is a new season high, one more then the 36 scored at Alleghany.
Please note that I will add the Coaches thoughts here before its over.
Alleghany…. 1 10. 6. 7 – 24
CCHS………….13Β 4.Β 6Β 14 – 37
As promised – thoughts from the Coaches……
Β ” We are so proud of the progress these girls are making. Several people came to us yesterday and spoke to the progress and improvement these girls have made. Every girl had productive minutes on the floor last night and executed what we have been practicing. Itβs hard to give a shout out to one girl when the whole team played so well. I have to say Hayden is a big asset with her height and dominating in the paint all 4 quarters. Maggie came off the bench and played great! I told her before she went in to be aggressive, get rebounds and catch it ready to shoot. She did exactly what we asked. Aalyiah scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. She is taking a leadership role with this team and we are proud of her. Ashton had 3 steals, 3 offensive rebounds, and 8 points. She came out tonight. Bree went 5 for 7 at the free throw line with 7 points. Lily came out with 4 rebounds 1 steal and 2 points. So when I say each girl played their part tonight, they truly stepped up and contributed! We love coaching these girls and are so proud!”
