Last month I was fortunate enough to find CCHS Alumni Kalee Bunn and Madison Stockner in the same Gym on the same evening.
Tonight is a little bit of a reach as 9.9 miles separate Elijah Cox (Class of 2023) and Katie Lam (Class of 2024). The biggest question was how do you split the time as equally as possible ?

The answer is Katie gets the 60 minutes of Pre-Game and the early part of her game before heading over to her π‘ College (Roanoke College) for the Randolph at Roanoke Men’s contest.
The Golden Oldie in this equation is Brandi Cochran – Mitchell and its very fitting that Game #1 is being played at Hollins University. BC-M left her mark on the Hollins program to the point that she was inducted into the Schools Hall of Fame.
Lam and Mitchell have a great deal in common in regards to their time as Lady π© Cavaliers. Mitchell had a very impressive career on The Hill but played Robin to Erin Gibson’s Batman.
Gibson graduated π with the School scoring record and took her game to Division 1 Virginia Tech. Mitchell landed at D3 Hollins and absolutely crushed her four years at the Roanoke school π« with her time ending with a HOF nomination.
Lam is a born to play Shooting Guard Freshman that has scored in double figures twice during the opening weeks of the season for the Maroons.
During her time at CCHS she played alongside Alyssa Ervin. Ervin took the School scoring record from Gibson and proceeded to hide it for quite possibly Forever.
Once again the Batman and Robin duo split at the fork in the road after graduation. Ervin headed off to D1 Elon University while Lam signed with D3 Roanoke. Both played years under the High School guidance of Head Coach Marc Motley and Travel Coach Ed Robtison ( Virginia Outlaws).
The think everyone has to understand about the role of shooting guard is to shoot π« and have a short term memory every time out. Lam has as smooth of a shooting stroke as you are going to find so it came as a little surprise she have games where she scored in double figures. It did however prove to be a very pleasant surprise that it happened as fast as it did.
Freshman year in College is full of challenges on its own as Student Athletes have to adapt to their surroundings in addition to grasping the new level of Coaching. Lam has appeared to have made a smooth transition.

Lam is listed as a 5’10 Freshman from Galax, Virginia and she is currently finishing up her pre-game warmups with her fellow Maroons.

Looking forward to seeing her play for a bit before heading across town to watch Elijah Cox play for Randolph.
More to follow…

The Lam Cheering section !
7:08 (1) – We have our initial Lam sighting ! The pace of the game is certainly amped up as both teams are running πββοΈ at full speed.
4:27 (1) – TO, Hollins 9-5
Tonights story are features, not gamers so there won’t be a slew of game data. More of shining a light on a pair of Carroll County success stories !

#22 – Katie Lam back in the game at 0:18. Roanoke leads 10-9 at the break and the take away from watching π Lam play is how comfortable she appears playing at the next level !

8:47 (2) – Soft floater in the lane finds the bottom of the net !
The pace that the Maroons play at is entertaining to the fans and creates plenty of playing time for everyone in the rotation.
Media TO – 5:00, Hollins 21-15
Great time to head across town !

Perfect Timing as Halftime is just ending!

#22in the Gold is our Elijah Cox. The 6’5 Big Man is playing his Sophomore season at Randolph (Lynchburg).

Cox will always be the first player to sign to play College Basketball π under Head Coach Anthony Barnes and everyone always remembers their first. In the first half Cox dropped 7 points and grabbed 1 rebound while being whistled for 1 foul.
Early in the second half Cox was the lone defender facing a 2 on 1 fast break and managed to come up with a steal on the play ! Just as was the case with Lam, Cox looks like he belongs on the floor.
π at 58 with 10:24 remaining

Cox has remained very connected to the CCHS Varsity program since his graduation π and is a Big Favorite with the young campers each year when Coach Barnes holds his annual event.
The last time our paths crossed, Cox mentioned possibly heading overseas to play Hoops after his College days are finished.
Cox is a Big but developed quite a touch from the 3-point line over the years. This will help him down the road because while 6’5 is Big for a High School π« player, its not in the World of professional basketball.
The game remains tied at 63 as we move under the 8:00 mark. Very competitive and very physical play from both squads.
Timeout on the floor here at the Cregger Center with 6:05 remaining at the Maroons leading the Wildcats 68-65.
In our relentless pursuit of Role Models for our youngsters to look up to, I proudly present to you, both Katie Lam and Elijah Cox !!!
I will circle back and add the final score of both games but as I mentioned earlier, the target was a dual feature…

The Maroons fell short to an undefeated Hollins team. Lam finished with 11 minutes played, 2 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist. They are now off until 12/3.
Cox and his Wildcats return home to play this Saturday 11/30…

The Maroons will close this one out but the Wildcats are going away quietly. Down 85-79 with 0:30.4 on the Clock β°.

Our third College Hoopster is currently playing up in πValley.

7:04 pm – That’s a wrap from ROA!
