Game #2 of 2 comes with a much bigger stage – Hoos & Highlanders in John Paul Jones Arena on the Grounds of UVA !

Virginia 24, Radford 9 after the end of the first 10 minutes of action 🎬. It’s been a minute since I was last inside of JPJ and I’m thrilled to see 👀 that the building has aged well.

Duke, UVA & Where I stay has been my motto for my entire adult life and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

The Grounds as the campus is called is special to me as the fifth of my five children, Rebecca graduated 🎓 here as a teenager. The bonus tonight is that Radford also falls under the umbrella 🌂 of being a local school.

The Ghost 👻 of Dawn Staley still hangs over the Wahoos Women’s Basketball 🏀 program. Staley came from the streets of Philadelphia and starred at UVA before the Olympics and WNBA yet wasn’t given the opportunity to Coach at her Alma Mater. Staley just captured her third National Championship at the University of South Carolina this past season.

UVA has tried a handful of Coaches since Deb Ryan retired at the end of her magnificent career and have yet to find the correct fit.

At the Half, its 45-23 after Radford connected from just inside half court but it was ruled after the horn. UVA is 1-1 this year after opening with a Win at home before falling by 44 points at #10 Oklahoma in their last outing.

Tonight is the opener of a four game home stand ahead of the teams trip over to Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 for a tournament. The Lady 👩 Cavaliers will need to sweep the home stand to shake off the effects of the Oklahoma setback.

UVA is easy to pull for across the board but the Women’s Basketball 🏀 team is still facing an uphill climb and will be throughout the 2024-2025 season. Tonight they have a nice crowd on both sides of the lower bowl of the still shiny Building !

Section #102 is going home with Free Papa John’s Pizza 🍕 !

End of the 3rd, Hoos 64-35 (19-12 for UVA).

Final Media TO – 73/39, QUESTION remains is will the Lady 👩 Cavaliers pull off the double up ?

1:24 left, 78-39, exactly double. Radford subs are struggling to stay competitive, 83-39. Highlanders bucket at 0:16.7 ends the run 🏃‍♂️

83-41 Final after 19-6 closeout quarter…

Elijah Cox is calling Randolph College home for his Sophomore season !

Year #2 of the College career for Elijah Cox has the former Carroll County High Cavalier playing his home Basketball 🏀 games in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Cox became the first player from the program under Head Coach Anthony Barnes to sign to play Basketball at the next level. The 6’5 Big Man averaged 5.3 points his freshman year playing at Mid-Atlantic Christian and will look to build on that this season while playing in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
