Tonight is Take a Teacher to a Ballgame Night πŸŒ™

Not only is Mr. Bill Meade of Stuarts Draft a teacher, he’s also a proud Graduate of the College of William and Mary. So on an evening with five different Sporting events that made the list of options, the landing spot is the Dedmon Center on the campus of Radford University.

The Highlanders are playing host to the Tribe with the Tip-Off set for 7pm.

Men’s Basketball πŸ€ was another option down at Cameron Indoor Stadium as Duke plays host to Army (6pm).

Women’s College Hoops was on the list as Elon University (7pm) is set to play their second game of the season tonight.

Option #4 of 5 gets started at 8pm down in Winston-Salem as Wake Forrest hosts California in ACC Football 🏈🏈🏈

Option 5 of 5 is only listed last as Allen Worrell will have blanket coverage for Carroll County High at Glenvar High School 🏫 Football 🏈 (starting at 7pm).

Let’s get back to our well educated Guest, Bill “Pappy” Meade. Pappy is in his 70’s now but is still Battling Father Time. Refusing to willingly slow down, Pappy is staying busy by both teaching at Ridgeview Christian ✝️ School and coaching Tennis 🎾 at Staunton High School.

Our paths first crossed 20+ years ago when Meade was the Sports Editor for the Page News and Courier. His writing ✍ style screams OneofUs.Care as Meade also only uses his words for Good.

[Duke16, Army 8] – first update…

So with apologies to Cooper Flagg, Alyssa Ervin and the Golden Bears 🐻 of California, we will spend the next two hours watching πŸ‘€ Pappy’s Alma mater (Class of 1975). It’s been 50 years now and it still shows.

Pappy still finds time to cover High School 🏫 Sports for the Daily News Record up in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Plenty of defense and hustle πŸ’ͺ from both sides tonight. 35-34 Tribe, 3:21 remains in the opening half.

First Final of the nights πŸŒ™ Five…

Highlanders have pulled away late, leading 87-74 (10-4 run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ)… TO, Radford with 0:40.5 left.

Elon moves to 2-0!

Fun moment to bump into this young Lady πŸ‘©!

Still get to see the 4th quarter of an exciting Cal versus Wake game !

Rough night πŸŒ™ for our Cavaliers up in Glenvar. Finish regular season at 5-5, should have a post season game next week.

Bronco kept me awake ⏰ until 1:45 but he’s worth it !

New Mexico earns win #4 over San Diego State.

Inside the Numbers from last night’s JV Football game…Was that Blake Reed under center or Aaron Rodgers πŸ€”??

Trailing 28-16 at the halftime intermission, Blake Reed was 3 of 7 for an unofficial 26 yards. Carroll County was realing after allowing Glenvar to score four touchdowns in the second quarter alone.

What happened in the final 20+ minutes belongs on an ESPN Instant Classic. Let’s start with the defensive effort from Carroll County down the stretch.

The four possessions for the Highlanders netted them just two first downs and one of them was gained by a defensive penalty. Team D was incredible and even in the Overtime period it took Glenvar four plays to gain the 10 yards for the go ahead score.

Blake Reed converted all 3 of the Cavaliers 4th down attempts. Two with his Arm and One with his legs and none of them were easy gets.

4th and 4 (14 yard pass), 4th and 8 (11 yard keeper) and incredibly 4th and 24 with 0:25.6 left (24 yard TD Pass). Can’t make this stuff up.

Reed went 10 for 11, 131 yards in the second half βž• overtime. 13 for 18 and 157 yards overall. TEN FOR ELEVEN. It wasn’t about a one man show in the slightest, it was a great team effort.

Two weeks ago, down in Durham, I watched a thrilling football game between Southern Methodist University and my beloved Duke. It ended in the exact same manner as the 🏑 team fell in overtime after matching the visitors Overtime TD but coming up short on the 2-point conversion attempt.

Yes, Duke lost 28-27 but it didn’t take away from the joy of watching the team play their Hearts out. Last night at Tommy Thompson Field, the home team fell 35-34 to end their season.

I believe that the final mark is 7-3 and they played some very exciting games across the schedule. The team is laying a foundation for the future and they did a great job representing CCHS and the Community !

Kudos to everyone that was involved with the team and their efforts πŸ‘.
