Carroll County Volleyball 🏐 season comes to an end but know that the Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers went down swinging…

Christiansburg High School entered their home Tuesday night Regional Quarterfinal against Carroll County as a heavy favorite and the Blue Demons swept the Lady Cavaliers 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-16).

While the loss ended the season for Carroll County (13-11), the ever so young team made sure the home team knew they were in a match.

” Want to say how proud l am of them tonight they had stretches where they played really well, ” said Head Coach Cindy Edwards. “Then they had stretches where they just got out played by the better team.”

Carroll County stormed out to gate in the opening set with leads of 4-0 and 7-3. Ali Wright drilled a couple of early swings and it was enough to get the attention of the home team.

CHS dug in and by the time that lone Senior Aza Petty ended the run with a Kill, it was a 12-0 run. Wright added a service Ace but the damage was done in regards to the opening set.

As the opening set was ending, Freshman Raylee Goins injured her ankle and needed to be helped off the court. Laiken Burnett tallied the final point for the Lady Cavaliers in the 25-14 setback.

The second set was full of bright spots for CCHS as the team pulled within one point at 6-5, 7-6, 8-7 and once again at 13-12. The final time came on the strength of a Burnett sneak and a Wright Kill.

Sadly, just as was the case in Set 1, CHS rolled off a 12-1 run to close it out. The final score was 25-13 and it put the Lady Cavaliers in a 0-2 hole.

The upside to the third and final set came very late in the match. CHS was in complete control, leading 23-10. Not going to fade away quietly, Carroll County put together a very impressive 5-0 run.

Corrie Delp started the run with a Kill and Callie Harris fired off back to back Aces. Arizona Thompson added a Kill and then CHS had an unforced error. The Blue Demons scored their 24th point ahead of a picture πŸ“· perfect block by the duo of Wright and Brooke Webb. Down 0-2 and 23-10 in the third set it was a great sign off for the team to finish up on a 6-2 spurt.

The team entered the team with less than 10 years total of Varsity experience yet followed the guidance of Edwards to a 13 victory season. Edwards realized how many people that helped along the way.

” I want to thank Maleah Neely for everything she has put into this program from being a player to bringing her knowledge back after graduation from Emory and Henry for the last 10 years. She has help so much with her passion and love for this program I can thank her enough. She will be truly missed. I want to thank Jason Petty for his hard work for the last 10 year’s also I truly couldn’t have done it without him . He has worked his heart out to help get the JV’S ready for varsity. I am so grateful . We have been blessed. Love both of them. They are my family. I also want to thank Trenton Miller for all his help this year he has been such a tremendous help.

I appreciate everything you have done. The last thing I can’t stress enough of how much this group has improved this year I couldn’t be prouder they came into the gym and worked hard every single day.”
