The photo π· above is for the final player profile that we will run πββοΈ tomorrow ! Ruth Hylton opened her home π‘ up to Leny Richter and we will tell that story tomorrow !!!
5:30 – Junior Varsity will play their final match of the season and the final one of the decade long Coaching career of Head Coach Jason Petty.
Their season will end tonight, win or lose and we would like to Thank Coach Petty and Coach Nikki Heflin for their efforts this season ! The season was going to be a challenging one anyway but when you add the loss of two young ladies due to Varsity call-ups, it increased the challenge. Kudos to the team for continuing to try to learn on the fly.
Approximately 30 minutes later the Varsity Lady π© Cavaliers (12-8, 7-4) will have their rematch with the Bobcats. Earlier this season, CCHS led 2-0 at home before Radford stormed back for the 3-2 victory.
There’s a great deal on the line tonight in regards to the District Tourney Championship that begins on Monday night.
To clarify this, we bring in the expertise of our Athletic Director Kevin DeHaven to explain…

Tiebreaker Procedure
If there is a tie between schools in the district record, the tie will be broken as follows:
1. Head to head record of the teams that are tied.
2. Common opponents outside of district play with equal number of games played versus that opponent.
- Tiebreaker numbers in draw
Standings in the District before tonight :
Alleghany 10-1 (hosting Floyd)
James River 8-3 (@ Glenvar)
Radford 8 – 3 (hosting CCHS)
Carroll County 7-4 (@ Radford)
_______________________________
We know that Alleghany will play host to the #4 seed on Monday night. The Cougars lost their opening match to us and then won 10 straight.
After that it gets very interesting , if Carroll County loses to Radford we will finish fourth and pack our Bags π for Alleghany on Monday.
If we win tonight we would pull into a tie π for 3rd place with Radford. We would then go to the tiebreaker system outlined by Mr. DeHaven.
There is no guarantee that James River will beat Radford but the Knights are playing lights out right now. JRHS swept both Carroll County and Radford in the past 10 days.
If both Radford and James River win tonight they will π for 2nd and have their own tiebreaker to see which school π« would host the other.
Just for fun, if Glenvar upsets James River and we upset Radford, we would have a three way π for second place. While that would be fun, we would lose that tiebreaker because we would finish 1-3 versus the other two while James River would be 3-1 and Radford 2-2.
So, to wrap up, we cannot host on Monday night or Wednesday night if we reach the finals.
If we lose tonight we head to the Highlands. If we win tonight, chances are we are heading to James River High School.
With all that said, neither Coach Edwards nor I was sure that we would have this to worry about this season. Finishing in the Top Four with less than 10 combined years of Varsity experience = Amazing π…
After tonight’s puzzle we can take a look at the Regional tournament and that situation which begins next Saturday with the play-in games.
More to follow once we are inside !
