“Ian Montgomery was selected to the VMEA (Virginia Music Educators Association) Honors Choir.
It is an audition only choir open only to seniors across the state. Much like All district choir and All Virginia choir auditions, the students have to perform a prepared piece and sight read. However, the audition music and sight reading for the honors choir is very difficult. Ian worked very hard, practicing on his own and with me since the beginning of school.
Most of the schools that have students selected seem to be from big areas such as Northern Virginia, the East Coast, Charlottesville, and Richmond. Only 3 students made it from our choral district (District 7) and Ian was one of them.
He will be going to Norfolk in about a month to practice with and perform at the VMEA conference. I am not sure when the last time CCHS had a representative to be selected to this choir but it has been quite a while.
Ian will be representing CCHS and Carroll County, and I know he will take this opportunity, learn from it and remember it the rest of his life.
He will not only get to perform with other students from across the state but work with a distinguished and renowned director, which knowing Ian, he will soak up everything he can!”
