Being that Carroll County was the Host School 🏫 , Coach Montgomery was responsible fort all of the results.

27 runners πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ competed in the Boys πŸ‘¦ Varsity event with five of them being Carroll County Cavaliers.

Here is the breakdown for our group of five on a chilly afternoon…

Ethan Edwards (9th), Garrison Wheatley (13th), Griffin Wheatley (15th), Micah Gwynn (23rd) and Adam Alderman (24th).

On the Varsity Girls πŸ‘§ side of the Race 🏁, Carroll County was represented by Amelia Forsyth. Prior to the event I was able to spend a few minutes with her and Coach Montgomery discussing the thought process of Amelia being the lone member of the Girls Varsity team and the thoughts that go along with that.

As far as the race 🏁 on Wednesday, Forsyth ran the course in 25:48. That time split the field, 13 runners πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ finished ahead of her and 13 runners finished behind her but none of them were wearing the same colors.

It’s not unusual for a High School Athlete playing a team sport to advance beyond their teammates when it comes to the post season. Golfer πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ Trace Reavis just finished up at the State Tournament as an individual and on the Tennis side of things Jabin Talley and Ethan Richardson were still competing well beyond the final match of the team and Brayden Smoot βž• Corrie Delp represented Track & Field at State after the team was finished.

But here, Forsyth is a one person Band from the start to the finish. Growing up in the Midwest (Kansas) before moving to Fort Chiswell and then finally to Carroll County, our Cavalier noted that the only time its obvious to her that she’s in this alone is at the Starting Line.

Normally the runners πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ from a team start a race bunched together at the start. They will start the race side by side and the final minutes will be spent as a group. Forsyth is standing alone, being squeezed by packs of runners from other teams.

Carroll County Boys team finished third on the day as five of the six members competed the race with the top 4 counting towards the team score (much like HS Golf). On the Girls side, Forsyth doesn’t get to make the team score list because of the minimum requirements.

This is not intended to be a sad story, quite the opposite. Forsyth is well spoken and intelligent with a grasp on the fact that the situation is what it is. Cross Country at the Jigh School 🏫 level is not a place where the Cool Kids gather. The idea πŸ’‘ of running 3.2 miles up and down hills in all types of weather is not for everyone.

Know that Carroll County High School Cross Country Girls πŸ‘§ team will not post a team score this season but know that they are being represented by one determined young Lady, Amelia Forsyth.
