Our Kevin Burress checks βœ” in from South Hill on Day 2 !

After not taking the field as originally planned on Friday evening, Carroll County made its debut at 3pm today.

Burress was busy live streaming the game for the folks back home so our updates were a little delayed but here is Kevin’s first take on the opening game.

” We lost game 1 to Powahatan 7 to 0. We gave up 5 in the first inning. I think the nerves really got to the girls. We settled in defensively after the first but we just kept hitting the ball straight to them for easy plays. I’m sorry for the lack of updates and pictures I’m having to use my phone to stream the game live. I’ll try to get pics from the parents and send them.”

Hopefully the team is finding away to relax off the field before taking the field again tomorrow.

” We play tomorrow at 1 pm. I’m not sure of our opponent yet.”

Thank You Kevin ! Anything else that makes its way back from South Hill will get added here later.

Once again we are so proud of these young Ladies and appreciate ❀ their Coaches !

More Youth Baseball ⚾️ was played as well today…

14u took care of business in Charlotte Courthouse today !

The Canvas Company has produced the Famalies Fab Four Favorite photos πŸ“·

The next step will be to make arrangements with each of the four families to get these gems πŸ’Ž delivered !

One more opportunity πŸ™ to say Thank You to Mrs. Velvet Creed Leonard for her efforts with this project.

The goal with this project was to let Jabin Talley, Ashlyn Newman and Emma Leath stand in the spotlight alongside our Alyssa Ervin. Ervin broke her record in front of a packed Gymnasium while the other three accomplished their in the midst of an 11 team Spring season.

Like everything else we chase its about equality and inclusion.

While it might be a generation or two before another talented Student Athlete like Ervin roams The Hill, I feel pretty sure it might be a spell before we forget Talley, Newman and Leath!

On a personal note πŸ“ I throughly enjoyed getting to meet the Newman Family πŸ‘ͺ for the first time.

It’s Saturday morning πŸŒ„ and we have folks in action 🎬 all over the Region !

Jabin Talley is competing in his first post CCHS Tennis 🎾 tournament up in Blacksburg this weekend !

Volleyball 🏐 Coach Cindy Edwards has her team participating in a camp down at our beloved Appalachian State University.

Kevin Burress is keeping us up-to-date on the Softball tournament taking place over in South Hill.

” We play Powhatan at 3 pm. The game will be available to watch on GameChanger if anyone wants to watch. The team name is Carroll Co. Angel All-stars.”

Brand New Lady πŸ‘© Cavs Soccer ⚽️ Coach, Adrienne ” Our Future ” Harris is prepping for a grilling interview in a Fun format set for tomorrow.

Shannon Dalton is at the Swimming πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ Pool with her next generation of Swimmers as they are set to host a meet today.

Casey Burcham signed off on his profile story written this morning πŸŒ„ before we packed up to leave Boone.

I am sure that this are just some of the things that our Youth are involved in today and we will happily share any & all updates sent our way !

It’s a Great Day to be a Cavalier or a Cavalier in waiting !

Casey Burcham is Carroll Countys answer to Virginia Techs Mike Young !

The Hill – After getting the opportunity to sit down with our new Baseball ⚾️ Coach recently it became very obvious just how perfect Casey Burcham is for the job !

The comparison to the Hokies Men’s Basketball Coach comes from the fact that the day that Virginia Tech hired Young they had found their long-term answer. Burcham now has his “Dream Job ” and has hit the ground running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ.

Coach Burcham and long time friend Steve Combs.

Baseball ⚾️ programs at the High School and College levels have grown so much over the past decade, especially on the business side of things. Burcham is well aware of that aspect of the task at hand and it shows in his first move out of the gate, hosting an Alumni game and playing it under the brand new lights.

Inclusion is a HUGE part of what is needed in all aspects of life right now and the game βž• the Home Run Derby will give so many Old Time Cavaliers the opportunity to feel connected to the program. The number of former players looking to lace them up one more time, well it looks like Burcham might have to beat them off with a stick (or baseball bat).

Not only does Burcham have Lyons by his side, he has the former Coach as his Athletic Director. Long time Cavalier Kevin DeHaven has moved into the office vacated by recently retired Darrin Mathews, giving him a head start of sorts with regard to building a relationship with the Administration on The Hill.

The program is having a great deal of success on so many levels right now. The Varsity just completed another successful season and the Junior Varsity team just claimed its fifth straight District crown πŸ‘‘. The promise doesn’t end there as the players at the Middle School played lights out from start to finish while the U12 team just placed 3rd in the State up in Appomattox.

The future is so bright that Burcham and Company might need to wear shades 😎. If you are old enough to remember that Song 🎡 and you played Baseball ⚾️ on The Hill, chances are you might be playing under the Lights here in a couple of weeks.

Seth Greenberg and Buzz Williams were solid Coaches that did nice things while leading the Hokies but both men were looking for the next rung on the latter. Actually, both men are still in their next job today but then the powers to be found Mike Young. The day Young excepted the job it was obvious to me that Young dreamed about being a Hokie for a long time and truly has his dream job.

Burcham is as Carroll County as Carroll County gets and he is surrounded by the likes of Combs and Adam Nester. Let’s not discount the level of commitment from the players and the families already in place.

Welcome to the Show Coach !

The Day that Mr. Nick Bell saved me $75.00…

Golf β›³ πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ Fundraiser next week !

Β  Anytime an opportunity to help those in charge of Fellowship of Christian Athletes events presents itself we do our best to get involved.

Β  Next Friday Mitch Reed is hosting a fundraiser event at Castle Rock and we were happy to both sign up a team and be a Hole sponsor.

Β  Golf β›³ was once a large part of life, from running hundreds of events in multiple states, but now its something that I do for fun. Fellowship if you will and when we put together a team its void of serious golfers πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ.

Β  Marion Harris is a fellow supporter of FCA so it was a natural invite to ask him to join Coach Alan Knight and myself for the afternoon. Also asked Marion to invite our fourth player.

Β  I have never had the privilege of meeting Mr. Nick Bell and I’m looking forward to doing so. From what I hear, Mr. Bell has serious golf skills.

Β  Fast Forward to this morning here in Boone as I was heading out to play a warm up round of β›³ at the Boone course. Thinking through to next week I made the decision to bypass the more challenging Course in town and elected to head over to the executive course at Willow Creek.

Β  Knowing that if Mr.Bell comes as advertised, my driver will not come into play next week. The upside was carding a +3 30 and getting plenty of practice on the short game and putting.

Β  Willow Creek is part of Willow Valley and is a fun yet challenging short course and with the money πŸ’° saved its off to see the Boone Bigfoots later today.

Looking forward to meeting Mitch Reed and of course, Nick Bell all while helping out our friends at the FCA !
