Then there were six Cavaliers left competing. Jabin Talley and Ethan Richardson are in action 🎬 today at Christiansburg High School πŸ«…

We are closing in on the final five days of competition for the 2023-2024 School year with six Student Athletes and the group has a common denominator – each of the group played Basketball πŸ€ this past winter.

Davis Reitzel, Jabin Talley, Ethan Richardson and Brayden Smoot each played for Anthony Barnes while Corrie Delp and Alyssa Ervin were part of Marc Motleys Girls Basketball πŸ€ team.

Talley and Delp are competing in their natural sport this week while the other four are simply enjoying their Spring time. Three Seniors (Reitzel, Talley and Ervin), two Juniors (Richardson and Smoot) and one Sophomore (Delp) with the Coaches still practicing their trait being Greg Talley and Shawn Montgomery.

Today we are here at CHS with Talley and Richardson. Talley is the #3 seed in the Individual field of eight and the doubles team also earned the #3 spot.

Talley has just finished off his first round opponent, 6-2 & 6-0. The second match (semi-finals) will get underway shortly.

We will be here until things wrap up for the day.

11:35 – Semi-finals underway

It turns out we have a third member of the Final Six with us today as Ervin is hear showing support for her Cousin, Nick McReynolds, recent graduate πŸŽ“ of Abingdon High School. McReynolds is the #2 seed and is Talleys current opponent.

Both of these young men are doing a fair amount of talking to themselves in between entertaining ground strokes.

McReynolds jumped out to any early lead at 5-0 but Talley is fighting πŸ’ͺ his way back into the opening set !

12:05 pm – First set ends at 6-2. Winner advances to the Finals against the Top Seed.

2nd set, Talley is trailing 2-1 (12:14). Jabin has shaken off his slow start and is now matching the lefty shot for shot.

The Sun 🌞 is playing peek a boo behind the clouds, leaving both players going from sunlight to cloud ☁️ every few minutes. Toss in the wind doing the same and it creates quite the mixed bag of conditions.

Now2-4

12:37 – Semi-final match is over now, ending 6-2, 6-2 in favor of AHS.

The singles career of our All-Time wins leader has ended but the doubles are still awaiting.

The Singles went chalk up to the finals which will be played tomorrow with #1 vs #2.

Talley and Richardson will be taking the court shortly.

1:15 pm is the approximate start time for the Doubles Quarterfinals.

1:25 – Doubles underway !

#6 seeded team is from Cave Spring.

Cavs – 0,1,1 (lead 2-1), 0,0 (trail 3-2)

0,0 – Trail 5-2

1:49 – Dropped first set 6-2.

This will be the final match of the day either way for the Cavs duo. The winner of the match will return at 11am tomorrow for the semi-finals.

Carroll County starts out hot πŸ”₯ 1,1,1 for a 3-0 lead in the second set.

1,0 – Now 4-1…..1 (5-1) – 1 (6-1)

Tiebreaker now – race to 10, must win by 2…

Cavs leading 5-2, 7-3, 8-3, 9-3, 9-4, 10-4. CAVS live to fight another day !!

We will return here tomorrow at 11am !

Bill Engvall made a great living off his comedy routine of “Here’s your Sign”. Today we present the Laurel Fork take about our sign !

Everyone that lives out here in Laurel Fork has a landmark that tells them that they’re back 🏑🏠🏑 home when they have to leave our little hamlet.

For many its the Blue signs on both ends of the village located on opposite sides out on US-58 while others see πŸ‘€ it as the Citgo sign at Nester’s Store or maybe the Dollar General sign.

But for me, in my four years it has always been the electric sign hanging at the Gospel Chapel πŸ’’, just before the intersection of Stone Mountain Road and US-58.

The sign has been taken down as it is in need of repair. I am lost without the sign for a few different reasons, with one of them being its glow late at night would tell me its time to slow down for the right turn to go home to Olde Mill.

The second reason for missing the sign is it gives a ray of Hope to me, especially late at night. Whether it is telling you the next time there is a service at the Church or offering a message that will make you smile.

Reason #3 is the Pastor of the Church is Stephen Puckett and while we do not actually have membership cards at OneofUs.Care, we remember everyone that has gone out of their way to assist us with a project. Stephen fits that bill in regards to helping us with the task of getting the scoreboard up at Cavalier Park earlier this year.

There are two easy ways to get involved with helping the Church replace the signage.

The photo πŸ“· on the right shows a collection box that sits on the check-out counter at Nester’s Store.

Then this Saturday, from 2pm to 7pm the Church β›ͺ will be hosting a Sign Fundraiser Spaghetti 🍝 Dinner. The event will also include Live Music 🎢 & Silent Auction.

It’s an easy answer for dinner on Saturday and it will help people in our little community. It might even help guide one of us back home 🏑 safely!

Marion Harris shares the message from Patricia Lineberry about both 6/2 & 6/6!

Even though school is out, the CCHS Cavalier Chorus is still hard at work, preparing for their concert in Washington, D.C. on June the 6th. We are honored to perform in DC to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

The students have been giving of their time to put in extra practices in the evenings to ensure we present an amazing concert.

On Sunday, June 2 at 3:00 p.m., the Cavalier Chorus will be presenting a preview concert for our community, friends, and family in the CCHS auditorium.

We hope you will join us for this and show your support for these incredible performers. Please feel free to share!

Change of Plans for the upcoming Regional Tennis 🎾 tournament as Blacksburg High School 🏫 is no longer the host site

Greg Talley was informed today that there will be a venue change for the Cavaliers and Lady Cavaliers tennis players. Blacksburg High School 🏫 was set to host the two day event but their team is playing that day in a State Quarterfinal match.

As of right now Christiansburg High School might be the alternative site for the Individuals and Doubles matches but we will try and keep everyone posted.
