Every night π that I announce a Softball game at Cavalier Park, whether its Varsity or Junior Varsity, I am sitting next to a Father π¨ of one of the players. Chris Leonard and Kevin Burress both make the sacrifice of not sitting in the stands with their friends and family πͺ, agreeing to work the new scoreboard during the games.
Another thing these two men have in common is they have jobs out of town so part of their efforts include zipping home after work in time for the first pitch. Two of the nicer people you are ever going to meet, with one noticeable difference. Burress is happy to say ” Now Batting, Natalie Burress” when I slide the π€ over to him.
Fathers π¨ work hard for a living and one of the things that makes it all worth while is watching π their little Girls π§ play ball. For someone to give of themselves during that time is HUGE.
That brings me to our new Girls π§ Tennis πΎ Coach, Mr. Martin McKenzie. Here we have a Father π¨ willing to divide his time with his daughter Erika by six as he stepped up to Coach the team this season.
Emma Vernon, Alexis Boatman, Khloe Akers, Tiffany Cruise and Maiya Caudill are all part of the Family for the McKenzies. Not only does a Father sacrifice his one on one time with his youngin, he accepts the responsibility for five more.
Now when you factor in his signing bonus, endorsement deals and money π° from the boosters and sponsors it all makes cents (insert laughter here).
It’s enough to make me want to personally say Thank You π and fortunately for me all I have to do is start typing!
One of the things we strive for at our Softball games is showing appreciation for the 9 teams not playing at Cavalier Park. This lead to a great moment the other night π when Boys Coach Greg Talley came over after their 6-3 victory over Glenvar. Talley had some fun with his moment when we acknowledged the victory to our crowd.
Wait β, Talley coaches a Talley as well but today its about Father’s and Daughters on our side of the street.
