Martin McKenzie is fast becoming a Hero of mine and that’s not easy to do!

One of the biggest obstacles in trying hard to create a user friendly site that shares all the results available on a given night 🌙 is getting scores and information from folks after one of our teams comes up on the wrong end of the scoreboard.

I am coming at this from the standpoint that even when we don’t win a game the following things still happened – our Student Athletes still put on their uniforms / jerseys, gave of their time.

The parents still blocked 🚫 off their day to watch their beloved children. They pay admission costs, eat Concession Stand food and arrive back 🏡 late.

There’s no need to breakdown the game, match or meet in great detail or point to a player or Coach as the reason the team didn’t win. But not even acknowledging the game took place isn’t the answer, at least not in my mind.

The most read story on the site yesterday came from Alleghany, where the JV Softball team dropped a double header to a talented Lady 👩 Cougars team. Even though we lost both games, young Bayliegh Allen connected on a pair of Home Runs and that in itself makes for a story.

Obviously I am fighting an uphill battle on this one but its a battle worth fighting in my mind.

Tonight , I celebrate our new friend, Coach Martin McKenzie !!! In our very first conversation last week I encouraged him to use the platform we have provided as often as possible, win – lose – or draw.

The number of tennis 🎾 matches that have been postponed will make the playing of double headers a very common thing for the balance of the Spring. Both of our teams played twin bills today and the Girls came up short in their efforts but their Coach still was comfortable with the efforts of his squad, enough to put pen 🖊 to paper 📃 and that Sir, makes you my Hero !

Coach McKenzie checks ✔ in after a double dip with Pulaski County on The Hill…

Well, it is a post no coach wants to put on, but here we go. We played Pulaski in a doubleheader this afternoon. We played one full match and the second was a condensed version. Our girls tried their best, but it was not our day. I am still proud of each one of them for the class that they showed in the loss.

The Pulaski coach told me, after the match, that his girls only had compliments for our girls in how they played today. He also said that they enjoyed playing us because of the class our girls showed them even in defeat.

That brings our record to 2-2 for the season.

Match 1-Singles:
Seed 1-Emma lost 8-2
Seed 2-Alexis lost 8-2
Seed 3-Khloe lost 9-7
Seed 4-Maiya lost 8-2
Seed 5-Tiffany lost 8-1
Seed 6-Hallie lost 8-0

Doubles:
Seed 1-Emma and Alexis lost 8-6
Seed 2-Khloe and Maiya lost 8-2
Seed 3-Tiffany and Hallie lost 8-0

Match 2, first to 5 wins.
Sigles:
Seed 1-Emma lost 8-3
Seed 2-Alexis lost 8-1
Seed 4-Maiya lost 8-0
Seed 5-Tiffany lost 8-3
Seed 6-Hallie lost 8-0

Coach, Thank You for sharing 🙏 the results. We like to acknowledge the effort of our Student Athletes every chance we can, even when the end up on the short end of a scoreboard.

Year #1 of assisting Coach Montgomery has drawn to a close after our Senior Day Track 👣 & Field Meet…

Favorite Track Moment : Brayden Smoot falling while trying to hurdle a hurdle backwards.

Future Plans – To attend Wytheville Community College…

That is what it would have sounded like if read correctly and without interruption.

Happy Birthday 🎂 once again to Miss Sarah Alderman !

Radford, Carroll County and part of Floyd County participated in today’s Three River District Track 👣 and Field meet. The ceremony for the 14 Seniors took place just before the start of the meet.

Will add the results once they are readily available !
