THANK YOU COACH !

Travis Osborne was at the top of my list of people I envisioned being Way Cool and I would like to spend 10 minutes with. Turns out he is beyond Way Cool 😎 and now that list needs a new name on top of it.

The past few days have been whirlwind, even by my standards as the path has gone back and forth across three states but I still had my heart set on stopping at the Middle School 🏫 Softball game on my way back from Beckley today.

Feeling sure that the head Coach would send me a write ✍ up after the game, I wanted to add a few photos to it. I made it back late in the game and starting taking pictures 📷 from a distance.

I noticed that I was standing 🧍‍♂️ just a few feet from a kind looking gentleman so I inquired as to how the game was going up to that point ?

We started talking back and forth and after a few minutes of this he started to connect the dots and realized who I was and then he informed me that he was Travis Osborne.

Why was it important to me to cross paths with Mr. Osborne ? I quickly found myself appreciating his style of posts 📫 on Facebook. Having not met him until today, I believed Travis to be what I like to call OneofUs.

The only noticeable difference between us is we support and pull for college teams that while are located near each other, wear different shades of Blue. But here at home its about God, Family and Cavaliers, regardless of their age. Travis is always trying to share positive thoughts about our Community and that makes him Aces in my book 📖!

Now that I’ve met the person that I had listed as the coolest person in Carroll County that I don’t know, I need a new one and I’m open to suggestions……

Emma Leath crosses 600 Strike outs as Lady Cavaliers post another shutout, 10-0 in front of a packed house on The Hill

Carroll County Senior Emma Leath joined Sydney Nester in the 600 Strikeout club on her way to tossing her second consecutive complete game shutout as the Lady Cavaliers cruised to a 10-0 victory over Grayson County Monday night. The large crowd enjoyed the effort from start to finish as the team remained perfect on the season

Leath entered the game needing six to reach the mark and did it in style by picking up one in the first inning, two in the second inning and striking out the side in the third. The fact that the one that put her at 600 was the final out of the inning allowed for an extended window to celebrate the feat.

(Allen – this one I took from the press box with the ball in the air on the final strike, not meant for the bigger story).

Leath would add two more to her total to land at 602 as the Lady Cavs offense ended the game early by reaching the mercy rule lead of 10-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. The final stat line for the complete game win was 8 K’s, 5 hits, 0 walks and 0 earned runs.

CCHS hit the ground running in the bottom of the first inning when the first three batters reached base and scored in a four run first frame. Addie Greene led off with a single and both Leath and Katherine Lindamood worked the court for walks to load the bases. One out later Isabella Norman lined a shot to centerfield that plated the first run and Laiken Burnett, Brooke Webb and Holly Miller each picked up one RBI in the rally that included 10 Cavaliers getting to the batters box.

Grayson County led off the second inning with three consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs but Leath escaped with no damage, thanks in large part to the defense of Emma Harman and catcher Natalie Burress. Following a Blue Devil strikeout, Chasity Wilson sent a hard hit ball in the direction of Harman who made a clean play and fired the ball home where Burress corralled it on a short hop for the force out. Leath would snuff out the uprising with another strikeout, which turned out to be the first of four straight.

” That was a big play for us on both ends,” said Coach Rick Nester. ” Emma (Harman) getting to the ball and Natalie (Burress) making the great stab to finish it.”

No Blue Devil reached second base the remainder of the game while CCHS would go on to add runs in all five innings. The team recorded a second straight error-free effort that led to another shutout, following up the 9-0 victory Friday night at Patrick County.

The offense was opertunistic from start to finish, scoring 10 runs on just seven base hits. Discipline at the plate allowed the Lady Cavaliers to earn 10 walks in addition to reaching on one hit batter and two GCHS fielding errors. Greene, Leath and Harman each scored two runs while Miller collected two hits.

Carroll County rallied from down 8-2 in the Junior Varsity game to pull within 8-7 and had the tying run in scoring position before falling by that same score. Arizona Thompson scored three runs and Bayliegh Allen collected three base hits to lead the Cavaliers offense.

Carroll County (8-0) will travel up to Radford Thursday night and return to The Hill on Friday to host Galax at 6pm.

Cavalier Park was the place to be on Monday night and here are the Top 10 reasons why !!!

10. We played in front of the largest crowd that I’ve seen in my three + seasons here. Crowd = Atmosphere

9. Head Boys 👦 Tennis 🎾 Coach Greg Talley came over long enough to share the news of his 8-1 victory over Grayson County !

8. Our JV team fought their way out of an 8-2 hole to make it 8-7 and the tying run was on second base when the game ended. Bayliegh Allen collected three base hits.

7. We had Linda Edmonds working the ticket 🎟 table for us. Josh’s Mom 👩 is such a treat !

6. Every half inning I was able to read a heartfelt message from a teammate to Senior Spotlight Student Athlete, Katherine Lindamood. 11 messages in all.

5. Kevin Burress was in the Press Box 📦 with me for the night 🌙 cap

Part B to this one was Chris Leonard and DJ Debbie were both up top with Tammy Tobler and I for the opener.

4. Once again the undefeated Lady 👩 Cavaliers combined solid defense, great pitching and timely hitting to both shut out and mercy rule an opponent !

3. Katherine Lindamood was celebrated all night long and was even able to catch the first pitch from her Mother, Kelly Hawks.

2. Macie Adkins (Class of 2023) joined us in the booth for a few questions and then joined Burress and I in singing Happy Birthday 🎂 to Emma Harman and a few other members of our Softball family 👪. So very sorry I didn’t see Kaylee Easter was also in the crowd because she would have been a fun fourth.

The number 1 reason we had fun Monday at Cavalier Park is…….

You can see the ball in the air on Strike 3 on the 600th K for Emma Leath. The senior became the 2nd All-Time Lady 👩 Cavalier to reach 600

Still need to type out the actual gamer but that will come after a nap.
