Taking a Look at the New River Trail State Park – Austinville to Shot Tower

The New River Trail πŸ‘£ stretches across four counties and flirts with being 60 miles long. Grayson, Carroll, Wythe and Pulaski Counties each have part of the trail within their boundaries.

The focus today will be the entry point just off I-77, Exit 24

I’ve been fortunate enough to make the complete experience, top to bottom and often wondered which part of the hike πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈincludes the most items one will find on the trail ?

The trail has 2 tunnels, multiple bridges, scenic views of the New River, picnic tables that I call Oasis and benches placed randomly for one to catch their breath. Rest rooms / portable types are also made available throughout. Not exactly sure how to properly describe the surface other than to say that its easy on the knees.

This particular stretch has something from five different categories. It’s home 🏑 to one of the 2 tunnels βž• lengthy views of the River.

It’s 🏑 to one of numerous bridges

This one crosses Indian Branch…

#4 – I call these little guys Oasis. They are provided by sponsors and contain a plaque noting the generosity.

#5 – The ability to take a rest room break, located near the Oasis! Not always available on the Trail

You can do a two mile in and back(4 mile loop) or dare to go all the way up to Shot Tower and back (7+ mile loop). Either way you will get a good taste of what the New River Trail πŸ‘£ has to offer!
