Corey Williams checks in with some thoughts on Middle School Soccer opener! Cavs sail to a 6-0 victory or as Corey states “Breezes to Win “

By: Corey Williams

Coach Garrett Reitzel sailed to his first career victory as Soccer Coach as his Middle School Cavaliers posted a 6-goal shut out at Tommy Thompson Field Wednesday afternoon. Shawsville battled more than just the wind, as the Cavaliers led by Hat Tricks by two players, Joni Rosales and Jovanni Hernandez.

In a goalkeeper’s nightmare, with the wind blowing into their face, Shawsville gave up the first goal roughly five minutes into the contest. The Cavaliers scored on a corner kick from Hernandez, Rosales netted the ball after winning a challenge on the play while the ball was still airborne. Much like the wind, the Cavaliers were persistent for the remainder of the first half. Both of the goal scorers took turns at putting the ball in the back of the net.

Kudos to the Shawsville keeper and defense as they were able to deny several initial scoring attempts, only to have the second or third attempt on the possession be the one to find the back of the net.

While the defense was tasked with much to do on the night in regard to high pressure opportunities, they stepped up and snuffed out all chances that were presented to them.

The Cavaliers look to build on the momentum of the early season win as their next game will be local rivals Galax Middle School on March 25th, 5pm at CCHS.

Thank You Corey for sharing your thoughts with us and best of luck going forward!
