Cavalier Soccer ⚽️ Elite status was reached tonight by Miss Ashlyn Newman ! Our senior found the net for the 50th, 51st and 52nd time against Galax

The 50 Goal Club in the history of Carroll County High School Soccer ⚽️ doubled in size Tuesday night when Ashlyn Newman joined Adrienne Harris in one of the most exclusive clubs in the History of the High School.

When you consider the lost time due to an injury and time spent in the Goalie position during her time in the program, it makes you appreciate the achievement even more.

The Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers are now 2-0 on the season, having outscored their opponents 9-0. Newman has netted five of the nine so there’s no telling if she has time to chase down the total of 71 that Harris netted or not, but it should be a fun story to follow along.

Karmen Smith netted two goals to start the attack and Callie Harris netted one in addition to the Newman Hat πŸ‘’ Trick.

Keeper Alexis Sheffey and the back line defense combined for the second straight shut out.

After calling the game for Coach Tickle I hung around long enough to meet with Mr & Mrs Newman for the first time. Before this year I had heard stories about their daughter playing soccer ⚽️ but because they normally play opposite softball I had never seen her play in person, only via the network.

I felt that I did her 50th goal justice with the brief ceremony verbage and I felt good about #51.

At that point the PA guy in me started to give way to the writer in me. I started making a list of comparable Student Athletes at our School to this amazing πŸ‘ young Lady πŸ‘©.

My list included Jabin Talley placing a tennis 🎾 ball, Alyssa Ervin controlling a basketball game or our Emma Leath spinning a softball.

As I was trying to find a way to compare this young Ladies skill set to our readers to appreciate just how talented she is. Mid thought, Newman snuck through the defense and scored her third goal of the night.

I couldn’t switch back fast enough to clear my thoughts and I looked down at my list and quickly said Alyssa Newman netted the goal. It might have been even more awkward if I had said Jabin Newman scored the goal??

Either way, I stayed around to apologize to her parents personally for my oops. They were both very kind about it and for that I’m truly grateful πŸ™.

Whether its the Girls Softball team, the Girls Soccer team or the Girls Track team, they are all hoping that their classmates and friends will find time to stop by and cheer them on.

It’s Spring time and we have 11 teams competing and they could all use a little Love πŸ’• and support. I am not sure how many more times my path will cross with Ben Tickle and Shana Parnell the rest of this Spring but know that when it does, I will give them my best effort because they deserve it!

I will also limit the number of times I create cross-over names of Elite Student Athletes.

Waking ⏰ up to a Ben Tickle Homework Assignment ! Also- Game now to start at 5:30 pm

Going to have some fun and shine some more light on our Girls πŸ‘§ Soccer ⚽️ team at the same time this morning πŸŒ„.

What the pictures above show are the rosters from the two Soccer ⚽️ teams scheduled to meet on the pitch at 5: 30 pm.

If Mother Nature allows the match to be played, announcing this game will become the single largest challenge in my 40+ years of PA work.

What in the World 🌎 makes this one so different ? Could it really be harder than calling an Appalachian State University Field Hockey πŸ‘?

The App State games are full of European names that sometimes have five or six syllables in them, both teams are that way for those games.

But in those games we only announce the starters from both teams and the Coaches, roughly 25 in all. I’m not European but I am of perfectionist decent. I truly feel its just as important to be spot on with the visitors names as our own.

Announcing for Coach Tickle the other night put the total number of Carroll County High School teams at 11. Always happy to help out our programs when I am in town but this one is going to be different because of two things..

First, the shear volume of names that will be read out loud in the opening ceremony. The number, once you include coaches will land right at 50. Even if you are familiar with all fifty names, its a challenge to add energy to that many names in a row.

Second, I count 13 names that could be pronounced one way or another. That’s 25% of the group. So even if you ask all 13 exactly how to say their name before the match, which I will do, you then have to store all of those answers to your brain 🧠.

So why would one agree to attempt something that requires so much Brain 🧠 space and has such a wide margin for errors ?

Because that’s how much I believe in the efforts of Ben Tickle and Shana Parnell. Their efforts for our 21 Student Athletes is appreciated πŸ™ by us out here in the Village.

Now we just need it to be warm enough to play !

Mother Nature and Galax are our opponents tonight as five of our 11 are set to compete.

All three of our Soccer ⚽️ teams and both of our Tennis teams are hoping to face Galax tonight. They all just need to weather to not get worse then its already predicted to be.

On The Hill will be the Girls Soccer ⚽️ (1-0) and Boys πŸ‘¦ Tennis 🎾 (0-0) while the other three teams will head out Highway 58 for their matches.

Boys Varsity (1-0) and Junior Varsity (1-0) Soccer ⚽️ will play at Galax while the Girls πŸ‘§ Tennis 🎾 program looks to finally get to play ▢️ their first match.

Each of the Spring Sports differ from one another which means they all have different minimal weather requirements for a match/ meet to take place.

We will keep an eye πŸ‘ on the announcements today but as of now all five are set to take place.
