We will call this one the quota photo 📷. On our way up to Beckley for our West Virginia Tech Golden Bears 🐻 Baseball ⚾️ double header we made a 50 mile detour to reconnect with our Softball family 👪.
Our Beloved Coaching Staff !
When I asked the coaches to name the player that was in the best frame of mind at 7:45 am, they both immediately answered Brooke Webb!
The Early Morning 🌄 MVP goes to Brooke Webb !
Fathers 👨 and Daughters !
Anyone that was up in Tazewell for the day and would like to share a thought or two should reach out.
10 innings divided my three opponents.
Some were cold 🥶, some were sleepy 😴 but they were all somewhat happy to be there.
The weather Monday & Tuesday will mess with the teams schedule 📅 a bit so be prepared for changes in the routine.
Here is a beautiful photo 📷 of the team…
Anyone that can actually reach out with a thought or two on the Day, please do so.
Saturday has been a busy day but a good kind of busy. Stop ✋ 3 of 3 brings us to Christiansburg High School 🏫 for the first of two Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star games.
Katie Lam scored the games first basket 🧺 and Alyssa Ervin added the next 11 but tonight’s not about a Game Story, It’s about supporting three things that matter to us.
The FCA is a wonderful organization that we happily support and our Dynamic Duo has filled many a night with high level entertainment over the past few years. A Trifecta of great reasons to make the drive 🚗 and the donation.
All-Star game #2 will be a combination of the two teams playing tonight versus a team of All-Stars from Tennessee. Ed Robtison will be on the staff leading the Virginia squad.
We have reached halftime (6:38pm) , with the Mountain ⛰ Empire leading 30-13.
Time for the 3-pointer contest !
Some of the Carroll County folks that have a vested interest in our two Ladies.
Katie won 🏆 the 3-point contest for our team, advancing to the Finals. She ended up finishing 2nd overall !
Time for the second half….
End of the 3rd quarter, Mountain Empire leading 46-36
14-3 run 🏃♂️ for the visitors has given them a 50-49 lead.
Time out with 0:33.8, NRV leads 56-55 and has the ball.
0:08.7, now down 3 with one shot to tie….. final shot bounces of the rim.
Today’s story is that I wanted and needed to be in three places at once. Scholastic Bowl is playing today at Gate City in a unique “solo” tournament. All the questions are buzzer questions and everyone is a one man team.
We dispatched four brave players to this event with coach Paxton Berrier.
Results should start coming in soon from the morning rounds.
We will be adding to this until Shannon Dalton signs off !
Our Rotary District Conference is today at the Inn at Virginia Tech. This year the Interact youth events are being organized by CCHS alum Kayla Payne who has risen through the Rotary ranks to take the helm of Interact at the district level.
Kayla is a librarian in Staunton, so this year’s service project is to provide books to pre-k students throughout Rotary District 7570.
Mark Harmon, our Lions Leo sponsor, is on the scene there with nine outstanding student leaders.
Which leaves me… in Greensboro pool side. Bradley and Will Dalton are swimming this weekend at Tarheel States hosted by Star Aquatics. They are here with Galax swimmers Briar Sessions, Addison Sheets, Sophia Chavez, Vivian Fant, and Thomas Fant.
I’m working the meet, so no action shots, but Will takes the prize for time drop today in 100 Fly.Briar is headed back tonight for finals.
He has had an amazing short course season with an appearance at NC age group champs and three qualifying times for EESZ (which is amazing for those not up on swim championships).
Looking forward to some great swims from him tonight!
Here’s an update from Coach Berrier:Things are good overall! Connor Beasley got a really bad draw, but has done well in it.
We’re waiting on the latest results. Connor has buzzed out in 3 out of 4, buzzing out first in 2 of those 3.
Jake Talbert got 60 points in one round, and Wesleigh Sacco got 50 points in one.
They’ve done really well!Buzzing out is a good thing, FYI. It means you got the max points and they made you stop buzzing in for the rest of the round.

Connor Beasley advanced from round one in the finals to the semi-finals. He finished fifth in semi-finals and ninth overall for the tournament.

Beasley was playing in the varsity division. Jake Talbert is playing now in the finals of the JV division.
Mr. Harmon and crew are on the way home from Blacksburg with a stack of books on hand for some lucky students in Carroll.
The group picture features our exchange student, Benjamin Stetina from Slovakia.
He’s just off a great night on the soccer field with two assists against Pulaski.

The MACC crew will finish their season on April 20 with a “trash” tournament (pop culture) at Virginia High.
Alan Webb is looking for three more players to fill out an adult team for the event. If anyone is interested in playing, let me know!

It was very enjoyable to have spent the day trying to support three groups in three cities on the same day as Mrs. Dalton.
We just made it back home 🏡 and we hope the Daltons have as well !
Editors Note 📝
Only thing missing was that Jacob Talbert finished 7th in his division.
Dublin – The New look Carroll County Softball team combined strong pitching, great defense and timely hitting to pull out a 2-1 victory over Pulaski County Friday night in Dublin to move to 3-0 on the season.
CCHS plated the games first run in the top of the third inning when Freshman Natalie Burress doubled off the fence and was advanced to third base by a well placed bunt from Holly Miller. Burress scampered home for the 1-0 lead after the Cougars catcher could not coral a pitch.
Burress flirted with a Home Run on the drive but the team took the lead by executing Small Ball.
Emma Leath did her best to make the 1-0 lead stand up but the Cougars plated the equalizer in the home half of the fifth inning on one of the three base hits allowed. Leath went the distance, finishing with seven strike outs while allowing one earned run against a very talented squad.
Head Coach Rick Nester was ecstatic about his team picking up a hard fought victory after plating the game winner in the top of the seventh inning. The score remained tied 1-1 heading into the final inning in part because of a diving catch in left field by Brooke Webb.
” We scored one in the top of seventh to win and our defense for played flawlessly to back a very strong pitching by Emma Leath with 7 strikeouts,” Nester said. ” After the girls seen the pitcher their second time they hit the ball hard some fell other right to them. Multiple girls with long at bats to make their pitcher throw lot more pitches helped us out later in the game. “
Emma Harman plated the game winning run in the top of the seventh after collecting one of the seven Lady Cavalier base hits. More small ball allowed the run to score in a game that full of sevens,
Leath pitched seven innings and recorded seven strike outs and the offense generated seven base hits. Senior Katherine Lindamood was the only Cavalier to record two base hits.
It is way too early to declare a victory as a key one but this one was a huge step forward for this group. Going on the road against a solid opponent and scratching out a victory will do nothing but give the young team more confidence. Especially when the game was a Team Win as all three components contributed.
Timely hitting, strong pitching and tremendous defense should equal a victory and it did without the team even recording a RBI.
Pending weather early next week might force more juggling of the schedule for both of the Softball teams. Mondays scheduled Junior Varsity contest has already been moved.
From here, Allen Worrell will take the story and add a score line and possibly make some tweaks but hopefully it will end up on line there as well.
Mrs. Coleman captured Coach and Mrs. Coach in between innings and sent it in.
Thank You Mrs. Coleman !
There’s still so much to get too and I will see what I can accomplish before heading out to Tazewell.
