Table #4 of 11 @ our Banquet belongs to Paul’s Brother – Rick Nester (& his Amazing wife Donna)

Once again I gave to Thank Mr.T for digging up the engagement announcement for our Couple of the Evening – Rick and Donna Nester.

I know there’s been a few people come on board recently that weren’t around at the start of my efforts here so I will tell the story about how Rick Nester became Paul’s brother.

A few years back I was standing in the Gymnasium after a Basketball 🏀 game and a conversation started up about Carroll County Sports. I mentioned that while I had been writing ✍ about Sports for over forty years, I knew absolutely nothing about who’s who in Carroll County.

At the time Paul Nester was standing next to me and my connection to him was he spent time working at Olde Mill occasionally. Someone said well don’t waste your time with the one that is next to you because he’s only relevant due to the fact that he’s Rick Nester’s brother. At the time I hadn’t met Rick Nester yet and I pull for the underdog so I started a campaign that to bring Paul out of his brothers shadow. There’s been a Paul’s World 🌎 segment ever since and to this day this is how people are saved in my cellphone

Kris Richardson – Paul’s Son-in-Law

Donna Nester – Paul’s Sister in Law

Paula Richardson – Paul’s Daughter

The other day when commenting on a post of mine one of Paula’s sisters added she was Paul’s other daughter, I’m still smiling from that one!

While I have spent the past fifty years being a fan of Duke University (as a kid thats were our relatives went when they were fighting for their lives) I have zero interest in talking about their Men’s Basketball team. But don’t get me started about Duke football. I pull for the underdog across the board.

Fast Forward to next time Paul for over at our place we were talking about various teams that his Grandchildren play at the School.

I mentioned to him that day that while I am enjoying watching the other teams, my first Love 💘 is Softball. I played Softball and Coached Softball, even married by second best player many a Moon 🌙 ago (39 years next week). I had just finished up helping Alan Knight with his Softball program at Page County and I was anxious to find out who coached our Softball team ??????

Paul smiled with that sheepish grin of his and said I just might be able to help you with that……..

Ron Cochran made me a T-shirt 👕 that has the CCHS logo on the front and on the back it says – “I help Paul’s Brother”.

Rick Nester is someone that I describe as a true Southern Gentleman 🕴️ but it turns out not everyone who played for him or sat in his classroom shares the same thought process. Coach takes that all in stride and keeps on smiling.

Someone asked me if I would ever stop ✋ calling Rick Nester, Paul’s Brother ? If I do, he would become Donna’s husband. She is the only person at the Banquet that I told Kris was off limits in regards to our humor because to mess with such a caring ❤ person would just be messed up.

I feel better for using all of my “I Love Rick Nester ” tribute without having to talk about anyone but Paul!

Rick Nester will be at Table #4 and will be receiving our Jay Neal Lifetime Achievement Award on March 23rd!
