Made some new Friends today, Thanks to Vickie Ritchie !

One Sunday after helping the Lady πŸ‘© I call our Resident Angel πŸ˜‡ with her Special Olympics Basketball event I found myself back in the Hillsville Elementary Gymnasium. One more practice ahead of the Big Trip up to Virginia Tech next Sunday.

I’m sure that Vickie will be sorting through her photos πŸ“· taken today for a long time but she was kind enough to send a handful to me.

The opposition team for today was the fine folks from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office 🏒. Richard Vaughan is the Sheriff and his team included four members of his staff plus Eddie Shupe of Oak Hill

Mr. Vaughan and his group made a lasting impression on me. The amount of energy that put into assisting Vickie was over the top. The were both helpful and entertaining to the point that at times I thought I was watching πŸ‘€ the Globetrotters.

The day started just before 2pm and wrapped up just past 5:00. The feeling one gets from participating in something like this is indescribable.

Bonus moments included getting to be a prop in one of the dribbling drills!

Once the exhibiton started it was back to the πŸŽ€πŸŽ™πŸŽ€.

I truly believe πŸ™ that if you can’t get behind the efforts and the cause that is Special Olympics, I’m not sure what you can get behind.

I missed seeing Greg Talley and Presley as they stayed home due to feeling under the weather but there were plenty of smiling πŸ˜ƒ faces.

Vickie was once again wearing a number of hats πŸ‘’, including being the referee. She was full of energy from start to finish and my guess is feeling it about now.

One more week before the Big Trip to VT !

Marion Harris was telling me that one of our Athletes was up at the Grocery store afterwards and the young man πŸ‘¨ was still smiling from the afternoon !

The moment that marks the end of the afternoon – everybody goes hands βœ‹ in and raise out with a chant of One Team.

The afternoon included meeting another remarkable Lady πŸ‘© but I will save that part for another Post πŸ“«.

Vickie added this final note πŸ“

” It kind of tickles me to think that at Oak Hill Academy tonight, one of the topics of discussion is a Special Olympics basketball camp in Carroll county, Lol
We have been their guests many times over the years to watch them play.”

Life is about choices and today I chose to hang out with a Special Lady πŸ‘© and a wonderful πŸ‘ group of young men and women. No question that I’m better for it.

I won’t be with them next Sunday because I have something to cover down in Alabama but I can’t wait to hear all about it. πŸ’˜

My appreciation for this man was so great that I tried to learn Corn 🌽 Hole so I would have a reason to hang out with him (besides getting my haircut

Sadly I just saw this so its a little late but the time I spent in Kevin’s shop was some of my fondest memories. Being in his shop was a throwback to a simpler time and the story telling was an added treat.

Kevin – You will be missed.

Allen – Thank You πŸ™ for capturing the story.
