The Wrestling team has been roughed up a bit with their schedule due to the weather. The team will compete tomorrow night 🌙 and then prepare for the Three Rivers District Tourney.
To tell the Katie’s story correctly one has to set the table. Her Carroll County team was in a showdown with the Alleghany Cougars, the two top teams in this years Three Rivers District.
Her teammate, Alyssa Ervin had just been whistled for her fifth foul with 2:55 remaining and the Cavaliers clinging to a 64-51 lead. The team was now down two starters as Sarah Alderman missed the contest with the flu. Senior Amie Delp was also unavailable due to her shoulder injury the night before.
Ervin and her 42 points were forced to take a seat on the bench next to her Coach. Lam was now tasked with holding the team together down the stretch and WOW! did she do just that.
On the Cavaliers very first offensive possession after the 5th foul Lam calmly netted a 3-pointer to push the lead out to 67-51.
” We haven’t had to play without Alyssa for any length of time this season,” said Motley. ” I had confidence in our ability to handle the ball and make free throws.”
Lam finished the 70-55 victory with 20 points, including eight in the all important fourth quarter.
” Katie stepped up and provided us with the Senior leadership we needed,” added Motley. ” She took us to the House ! “
Should Carroll County hold on to the top spot in the Three Rivers District regular season standings it will be easy to look back at this game and remember the night that Katie Lam delivered the Mail !
” Her hitting that first 3-pointer was huge for both her and her young teammates,” noted Motley. ” It allowed the youngsters to breathe again and know they were going to be just fine.”
