Carroll County finds a way to herd the Buffaloes in their own domain !

Floyd, Virginia – Carroll County improved to 12-1 overall and 4-1 in the Three Rivers District play by traveling to Floyd County and conquering the home team.

โ€‚Bryce Smoot led the Cavaliers with 22 points, eventually sealing the victory with nine points down the stretch. Isaiah Easter continued his impressive Sophomore season with 18 points, including a clutch pair of free throws down the stretch as Floyd County refused to go away quietly.

The Buffaloes pulled within five points at 57-52 before CCHS tightened up defensively and sank enough free throws down the stretch to secure the victory. Floyd County becomes the latest team to drop a contest to the Cavaliers since Head Coach Anthony Barnes (fourth season) took over the helm of the program.

” Welcome to Floyd and Floyd basketball, non stop effort and contact, reaching and banging,” said Barnes. “I told them they have to be strong with the ball and play thru the contact and they did, huge night for Isiah Easter (18)and Cody Reece (6)with huge rebounds and minutes down the stretch with Davis and Ethan were both in foul trouble.”

Carroll County carried a 27-25 lead into the lockeroom after both Easter and Bryce Smoot scored eight points in the opening half. Knowing that their opponent was not going to fade away down the stretch Barnes knew that it would be as much about defense as offense down the stretch.

” Jabin Talley did an excellent job on Farley keeping him in check to just 4pts at half.” added Barnes. “Bryce Smoot(22) put in a extra gear , knocking down some huge shots down the stretch, huge with by both groups for our program at as always a tough place to play. Proud of their grit and effort defensively and staying focused.”

โ€‚Davis Reitzel finished the night with eight points while working through foul trouble and Ethan Richardson tallied seven, including a pair of second half 3-pointers.

โ€‚Cody Reece finished up with six points and Jabin Talley added a 3-pointer for the Cavaliers.

โ€‚The Junior Varsity also prevailed 62-48 as four separate Cavaliers finished up in double figures in the victory. Hayden Jackson (17), Blake Reed (16), Colton Gravely (13) and Dane Leonard (12) teamed up for 58 of the teams 62 points. Kyle Bunn and Landon Phillips each scored 2 points for the Cavaliers.

โ€‚The Junior Varsity team is finished up for the week but the Varsity will be back in action Friday night at Patrick County in Stuart.

Congratulations ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ to both of the squads on their efforts tonight ๐Ÿ‘
