Continuing to further educate myself on High School 🏫 Wrestling

Each match can earn a team from 3 to 6 points. There are 14 matches each time out unless both squads are without a wrestler at that weight.

Next step πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ is to try and score the second match from last night, where the Cavaliers hosted Floyd County.

There were three matches that both squads didn’t have a wrestler, 6 that were forfeited (5 won by us) and five matches won by πŸ“Œpins. We went 2-3 in those matches. My quick math says – Carroll County 42, Floyd County 24.

Using the same limited understanding, I believe that Radford took the opener 45-30 with one match where both teams didn’t have a wrestler.

So the question is why would someone πŸ€” put this amount of time and energy into a sport where there’s limited knowledge ?

Easy answer – when your platform is Equality you have to try to be just that- equal.

I believe that Coach Long is a perfect fit for this team and that each member of his squad deserves the same level of recognition πŸ‘ for their efforts πŸ‘

We have seven teams competing this winter and the goal remains the same for the next three months. Try and shine a positive light on them whenever possible, even when it means trying hard to learn how to further appreciate their efforts.

If my makeshift scoring is correct then Congratulations Coach Long on collecting your initial Victory !

Thank You to Mr. Ben Tickle for his efforts πŸ™ last night πŸŒ™ during the matches.

Tonight it will be Coach Jason Stockner and Coach Anthony Barnes running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈtheir teams out on Center Stage ! Action 🎬 begins at 5:30 on the Hill !

Last night πŸŒ™ belonged to Girls JV Basketball πŸ€ and Wrestling, now its time for JV Boys πŸ‘¦ Hoops and Varsity Boys πŸ‘¦ Hoops with Pulaski County Cougars as the opposition.

Admission remains at $7.00 for those without passes. Pulaski County is playing in Class 3 this season after dropping from Class 4 and should provide a solid test for our Cavaliers, both JV and Varsity.

This years team is built on speed and 3-point shooting in addition to aggressive defense from start to finish. This combination should produce highly entertaining basketball πŸ€ each and every time that they take the court.

When you mix together quality people together you end up with something special. Allen Worrell pens πŸ–Š a great story on Adrienne Harris with her proud Papa adding a thought.

Adrienne really wanted to hit home that it does not matter what school you come from with hard work and a great attitude you can make it!!!

Kudos to Allen on the story and to Shelia & Marion for raising such an impressive young Lady πŸ‘©.

One will find the story in this week’s Carroll News.

More from the Wrestling Mat – trying to fill in the blanks from tonight with a bit of help from Coach Long.

The beauty of having your own space to sort through allows one the opportunity to peck away at something until you get it right !

Please hop back a couple of posts to check out all of the pics taken earlier while I keep plugging away.

More Notes :

  • There are 14 weight classifications for each match.
  • Not every team has a full roster of Wrestlers so if a team doesn’t have a person for the slot they Forfeit. If both teams are missing a person at a particular class then it cancels out.
  • The match doesn’t necessarily start at the lowest weight class and tonight it would appear we started once at 215 (vs Radford) and 138 ( vs Floyd)
  • At the conclusion of the 14 matches the Coaches can choose to have some matches play out as exhibitions. Tonight it would appear that we had some of those in both matches.
  • Each period lasts 2 minutes with three periods being the maximum.

_______________________________

In the final match of the evening against Floyd County we actually wrestled in five classifications while nine others were forfeited. We went 5-1-3 in the above matches, capturing five while losing one and having three end in no contest.

In the five matches that we wrestled we went 2-3 with both wins coming on pins πŸ“Œ.

______________________

In the opener versus Radford we wrestled 8 times with 6 decided by Forfeit. We went 2-3-1 on the Forfeit end of things and 3-5-0 in the completed matches.
