When you mix together quality people together you end up with something special. Allen Worrell pens 🖊 a great story on Adrienne Harris with her proud Papa adding a thought.

Adrienne really wanted to hit home that it does not matter what school you come from with hard work and a great attitude you can make it!!!

Kudos to Allen on the story and to Shelia & Marion for raising such an impressive young Lady 👩.

One will find the story in this week’s Carroll News.

More from the Wrestling Mat – trying to fill in the blanks from tonight with a bit of help from Coach Long.

The beauty of having your own space to sort through allows one the opportunity to peck away at something until you get it right !

Please hop back a couple of posts to check out all of the pics taken earlier while I keep plugging away.

More Notes :

  • There are 14 weight classifications for each match.
  • Not every team has a full roster of Wrestlers so if a team doesn’t have a person for the slot they Forfeit. If both teams are missing a person at a particular class then it cancels out.
  • The match doesn’t necessarily start at the lowest weight class and tonight it would appear we started once at 215 (vs Radford) and 138 ( vs Floyd)
  • At the conclusion of the 14 matches the Coaches can choose to have some matches play out as exhibitions. Tonight it would appear that we had some of those in both matches.
  • Each period lasts 2 minutes with three periods being the maximum.

_______________________________

In the final match of the evening against Floyd County we actually wrestled in five classifications while nine others were forfeited. We went 5-1-3 in the above matches, capturing five while losing one and having three end in no contest.

In the five matches that we wrestled we went 2-3 with both wins coming on pins 📌.

______________________

In the opener versus Radford we wrestled 8 times with 6 decided by Forfeit. We went 2-3-1 on the Forfeit end of things and 3-5-0 in the completed matches.

Scoring :

Mrs. Goins kept us updated during the game and now the Burress family 👪 gives us the inside scoop !

Still More

Now Kevin’s take on the Game :

The JV girls jumped out to an early 6 to 0 lead before Galax scored their 1st bucket which was a 3. Kayla Young started the scoring quick for the Cavs scoring the first 6 points. The Lady Cavs never trailed in this game although they did allow Galax to make it interesting just before halftime going into the half with the Lady Cavs leading, but not comfortably. The 2nd half was all Cavs. With a stifling defense and finding more of a groove offensively the Cavs were able to pull away for a final of 43 to 21 Lady Cavs. A lot of contributions were made offensively with Raylee Goins, Kayla Young, Kenzey McMillian, Kenzie Young, Natalie Burress, Faith Clontz, Laynie-Jo Leonard all scoring. The girls will have their home opener with Pulaski Friday night at the Carroll County High School.

Awesome job by a trio of parents !!!

Next time you’re in our Gymnasium PLEASE check out the shinning look of our refurbished Snack Bar!

The power 🔋 involved in doing something for others can be truly uplifting 🙏 ! Two couples 💑 took on the task of giving the Snack Bar / Concession Stand a face lift and they teamed up to hit a Home Run. Mr. & Mrs DeHaven along with Mr & Mrs Reed teamed up to get the job completed and were still smiling 😃 after the fact.

Samantha did mention that the size of the project when its time to overhaul the one at the Football field will take much more than the Fantastic Four involved in the project.

When I asked about the division ➗ of responsibilities on this one I was shown this photo 📷

It was labeled “Supervisors”

Thank You to these four folks that gave of themselves for the betterment of others – kinda feels like a OneofUs.Care thought process!

Opening Night 🌙 for Carroll County Wrestling with some updates from JV Girls 👧 Basketball 🏀 mixed in – Running 🏃‍♂️ Blog

Head Coach West Long is ready to take his first steps 🚶‍♂️ in his unique 18 year plan for his Wrestling program!

Radford and Floyd County are both in the Gymnasium tonight to challenge our Cavaliers. Trying to find the best way to frame the evening and I think the answer is to use a time-line format.

5:45 – Radford is currently using the mat to warm up for their first match

Its worth mentioning that this will be my first attempt at covering a three team meet from start to finish so it will be an adventure to decide what all is relevant and what is not.

One thing is for sure, these young Student Athletes work as hard as anyone wearing our colors. Knowing that, we will do our best to shine a light on them whenever we can.

It appears that Floyd County will be the Home 🏡 team for the opening match with Radford providing the competition. This will mean that Carroll County competes in the second and third matches.

6:01 – Floyd County and Radford are set to wrestle !

Let the matches begin !

Mrs. Goins has checked in from Galax with good news – Carroll County leads 18-12 @ Halftime….

6:33 – Radford and Floyd County just completed their match and our team is now working out on the Mat.

Reason to smile 😃 – one of the Radford Dad’s took the time to inquire about why I wasn’t announcing the match? He had enjoyed the commentary during both Softball and Volleyball 🏐 seasons. Always nice to hear kind words, especially from the visitors side !

Pace of the match is quick , one right after another. 7:03 and we are in the 7th match.

7:17 pm – Match close to over

Much more of a challenge to keep up the scoring by comparison to Basketball 🏀 for sure.

Worth noting that the crowd tonight is very into the match ! Very loud and encouraging cheering 👏 from every portion of the crowd.

#Leadership

Quite the match going on here with Carroll County leading it 25-22 in the third and final period. Apologize for not knowing the names of the two wrestlers. Both of the competitors have endured a bloody nose 👃 and its tied 25-25

What a match, 31-29 was the final for that one!

7:41 – end of second contest.

Next up is Floyd County vs Carroll County.

7:51 – Match #3

Preston in action 🎬

Four straight no contests due to lack of a Wrestlers. Two were double and two were victories for Carroll County.

8:19 – All completed.

Will work on tracking down names and results from the evening.

Post match workouts have begun.
