Looking inside both the Amazing Lady πŸ‘© and the Building at Longwood University with her name on it.

Farmville, Virginia is a quaint little town that is the home 🏑 of Longwood University. Having spent many a Moon πŸŒ™ in Farmville over the years, I was more than a little curious about the new Gymnasium they recently opened so we decided to check it out on Saturday afternoon.

Jerome Kersey attended High School 🏫 at Bluestone, located in Clarksville on Buggs Island Lake. The same little town were my Father was born and raised as well as the school that one of my three Sons graduated πŸŽ“ from.

Kersey was the lone player to wear the Longwood jersey in the National Basketball πŸ€ Association and he navigated a 17 year carrier but sadly passed away at the age of 52.

It was a flashback for sure when Longwood University was in the Gymnasium at Carroll County High School for a Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers Volleyball 🏐 match this year during their recruitment of Alyssa Ervin.

The new building just sparkled beyond my imagination! The Gym left enough of an impression on me that it sent me in search of the back story on the Lady that had her name on the outside. The link above tells her story in detail and its the type of story that just makes a person feel proud about another human being never forgetting where they got their start.

P.S. – Longwood won the Basketball πŸ€ game yesterday

But its wasn’t about the game being played, it was about Community Pride that the Joan Perry Brock Center displays !

The other day Kris Richardson asked me how I went from a remote Island 🏝 off the Coast of Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ to Laurel Fork, Virginia ? It’s all about not forgetting where you came from and for me that’s right off US-58 as both Mom (Cumberland Gap) and Dad (Buggs Island Lake) were born and raised on US-58.

Yesterday afternoon made me feel just a little proud of those roots!

Kudos to Mrs. Brock and Mr. Brock!
