The combining of Covington and Alleghany High School π« Student Athletes doubled up this Summer when the two schools merged leaves the new team to be reckoned with. The Cougars came into the game averaging 39 points per game and they actually raised that number.
Carroll County will attempt to shake off the contest next week when it travels over to Floyd County.
The new version of AHS will be a much stronger one going forward which is scary in regards to both Baseball and Softball because they were already pretty impressive in those Sports pre-merger.
Carroll County will return home π‘ for their final two games after the trek over to Floyd County as they continue to look to build confidence in themselves. As for the game against the Cougars, you need to just shake, shake, shake it off.
As we did prior to our Field Hockey game a Moment of Silence was held to honor the Late Chancellor of ASU, Mr. Kenneth E. Peacock.
Even the Mascot is in full Pink Mode !
The tie to Breast Cancer Awareness is obvious and the Appalachian State University connection is also self evident but how about to our Coach back home π‘, Cindy Edwards ?
Trust me when I say that not every community has a Coach that has dedicated his or her entire adult life to teaching the game of Volleyball to a Community and at times neighboring Communities. Now, let me contradict my own thought process by adding that I have been blessed to know two folks that fit that very description – Alan Knight of Page County and Cindy Edwards of Carroll County.
Pardon the Interpretation……. but time with the Mascot is Premo Time !!!
Just last week Alan & Cindy ended up in the same College Gymnasium up in Harrisonburg. Alan was in the building to be a line judge for the Match (something he does to give back to the game when he’s not doing Color commentary for ESPN+) while Cindy had a special purpose that evening as well.
See, one of Cindy’s former players currently plays for EMU, Ms Madison Stockner. Coach made the drive π up I-81 to show support for one of her former players. Cavalier Alums play Volleyball π other places as well – Ferrum, Emory & Henry here in Virginia and as far off as the Greater Chicago area.
Appy wins set #1, 25-17
Cindy coaches them when they’re too young to understand the game and stands by them well after they take the CCHS jersey off for the final time. Is it just me or does it sound a little like Moonlight Graham of Field of Dreams???
Twenty more minutes of watching π College Volleyball π and then start the 2 hour drive π home π‘ while trying hard to follow Cavalier Football πππ.
For the email π§ subscribers, here is the correct Post π« from earlier as sometimes Auto Spell Check thinks its your friend but its not.
Big Thank You to Kris Richardson for catching π it so quickly !

Now – Marion’s take from the Gym in Buchanan last night π.
We lost a very close match last night to James river!!!! I have always told my kids and my players you can win with class and you can lose with class. Well last night I have to say overall we lost with class. 24-26, 26-28, 25-16, 25-19?, 13-15. It is hard when you outscore a team by 9 pts but lose the match but as our coach told the girls last night sometimes that is volleyball. Our team despite not playing their best ball last night going down 2-0 they never gave up. Keep the fight up and finish the season strong and get ready for the playoffs !!! District tournament and regionals still left to play. Remember this as my all time favorite Cheer coach says itβs always a great day to be a CAVALIER !!!!!!
Thanks as always to Marion !
One quick note – Final Set was 14-16, after the Cavs rallied from down 14-9 to tie the score.

Kent State Golden Flashes
It’s still hard for me to call Alleghany High School π« the Cougars because they were the Mountaineers for so long.
But the combining of the two Schools π« up in the Highlands led to using the Covington Mascot. Our Cavaliers Football πππ team will look to build on last week’s stellar performance, also up in Buchanan (14-0 victory over James River), when they take on the Cougars.
The team is in the middle of a three game road swing and will be in search of consecutive Wins for the first time this seasons!
Quick recap before the start of the Drive π:
The Volleyball π team played hard all the way to the very end last night π as the Knights needed extra time in all 3 sets.
App State Mountaineers look to earn another M.A.C. victory today at Home π‘.
The Football team will look to defeat the team formally known as the Mountaineers up in the Highlands.
Going Full Circle π΅ back to Marion – It’s a Great Day to be a Cavalier !!!
