After a couple of weeks of phone calls π and Text messages I was finally able to meet our New Golf Coach and 20 of his young golfers ποΈββοΈ.
The team was holding a practice this afternoon at Olde Mill Golf β³ Resort in beautiful Laurel Fork, Virginia. Coach is in the process of trying hard to turn our Golf β³ Team into a Golf Program and we are looking to assist anyway possible.
It’s are hope to create some player profiles as we go on but for now here are some pictures π·
Today’s practice was a mixture of both the Varsity team and the 8th Grade team.
It was a treat to try and make sure we captured at least one photo π· of each of the Golfers ποΈββοΈ present.
We are now 11 days away from the Golf Program Fund Raising event at Olde Mill (September 17th – 1 pm) and we are looking forward to both the event and assisting the Coach in his efforts to solidify his program !
Our resident Boss Man Kris Richardson is one of our Birthday π trio ! We sincerely hope that Kris will be able to slow down long enough to Celebrate today.
.
The second Birthday π belongs to Linda Carter, my Bride π° of 38 years. While she has only been in our beautiful village of Laurel Fork for three years she is pretty fond of our little hamlet.
Last but not least is the Man that is the center of the Laurel Fork universe – Paul Nester. Paul is the Godfather of the Family πͺ out here and is finally getting to enjoy retirement !
If you happen across any of these three wonderful people Please take time to wish them a Happy Birthday ππ₯³ππππππ₯³πππ!
Our local version of the Incredible Hulk was in Top Form but the Varsity team was missing one of its Main Smashers as Madison Lyons is nursing an injury. The remainder of the team showed plenty of Spunk while facing the team formally named the Alleghany High School π« Mountaineers.
AHS and Covington merged together over the Summer which should strengthen their teams in all sports as they have twice the talent pool of Student Athletes to pull from. This will be truly scary in both Baseball and Softball because AHS was already pretty talented in those Sports.
The Varsity Girls started their match at 6:42 pm after the Cougars captured the Junior Varsity match 2-0 (25-6, 25-10). Coach Petty was under the weather in a noticeable way but was still holding down his seat πΊon the bench. The JV team hung tough in the second set early on and pulled into a 5-5 tie π before the Cougars pulled away to complete the sweep.
Back to the Varsity match, the Cavaliers stumbled out of the gate in the first set and trailed 16-5 when Coach Cindy Edwards called a timeout in an attempt to calm her teams nerves.
CCHS responded to win the remainder of the set 13-9 but the hole was too deep as Alleghany held on for a 25-18 victory.
The third set was a true to form back and forth battle. The teams were tied at 18, 19, 20 and 23 before the Cougars eked out a 25-23 victory.
In the fourth and final set of the night π the Cavaliers found themselves in another slugfest up until a 17-17 tie. AHS rolled to an 8-1 closeout of the set and the match, 25-18.
Hoping that both Madison π and Coach Petty will return to health shortly as the teams are slated to head up I-81 on Thursday for the first of two matches with the two time defending State Champion Glenvar.
There was a nice crowd in the Gymnasium and both teams were well represented !
That will be it for the night π with more to follow in the Morning π.
The Junior Varsity team is on the floor as we host the freshly merged High School π« of Alleghany. No more Mountaineers as the new team name is the Cougars.
Way behind on my blogging responsibilities from last night π but the evening reminded me of the classic Bill Murray line from Caddyshack – “We’ve got that going for us, which is nice.”
Yes, we won a football game last night π down in Durham that very few people thought was winnable. We enjoy ourselves win or lose but it is safe to say that more than a few people did Celebrate the W.
