Tuesday night πŸŒ™ is winding down now after our Volleyball 🏐 matches against the Cougars of Alleghany

Our local version of the Incredible Hulk was in Top Form but the Varsity team was missing one of its Main Smashers as Madison Lyons is nursing an injury. The remainder of the team showed plenty of Spunk while facing the team formally named the Alleghany High School 🏫 Mountaineers.

AHS and Covington merged together over the Summer which should strengthen their teams in all sports as they have twice the talent pool of Student Athletes to pull from. This will be truly scary in both Baseball and Softball because AHS was already pretty talented in those Sports.

The Varsity Girls started their match at 6:42 pm after the Cougars captured the Junior Varsity match 2-0 (25-6, 25-10). Coach Petty was under the weather in a noticeable way but was still holding down his seat πŸ’Ίon the bench. The JV team hung tough in the second set early on and pulled into a 5-5 tie πŸ‘” before the Cougars pulled away to complete the sweep.

Back to the Varsity match, the Cavaliers stumbled out of the gate in the first set and trailed 16-5 when Coach Cindy Edwards called a timeout in an attempt to calm her teams nerves.

CCHS responded to win the remainder of the set 13-9 but the hole was too deep as Alleghany held on for a 25-18 victory.

The Lady πŸ‘© Cavaliers came out aggressive in the second set to take a 12-4 lead. The two teams would play out the set 13-13, giving the Cavs a 25-17 victory to tie up the night πŸŒ™.

The third set was a true to form back and forth battle. The teams were tied at 18, 19, 20 and 23 before the Cougars eked out a 25-23 victory.

In the fourth and final set of the night πŸŒ™ the Cavaliers found themselves in another slugfest up until a 17-17 tie. AHS rolled to an 8-1 closeout of the set and the match, 25-18.

Hoping that both Madison πŸ™ and Coach Petty will return to health shortly as the teams are slated to head up I-81 on Thursday for the first of two matches with the two time defending State Champion Glenvar.

There was a nice crowd in the Gymnasium and both teams were well represented !

That will be it for the night πŸŒ™ with more to follow in the Morning πŸŒ„.
