One of the more intriguing Sports stories from the past year is just getting started as Elijah Smith looks ahead after Nationals

For 3+ years Elijah Smith was an observer in regards to the Sports scene at Carroll County High School. Then just like the Car πŸš— commercials where they talk about going from Zero to Sixty in a matter of seconds, Smith hit the ground running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ.

The story goes that it was some members of the Track and Field team approached Smith about coming out for the team at the end of his Senior year. Smith took it from there and taught himself how to both toss a Discus and push a Shotput.

Smith proved to be a quick learner and then some as the season progressed and by the end of the regular season he had earned an invitation to the State Tournament in Lynchburg.

After placing 9th at State Smith received another invite, this time to the Addias National Event in nearby Greensboro, North Carolina. There is a certain amount of humor in the fact that the Smith family traveled fewer miles to the National event then they did to the State meet.

Nationals had over 3,500 athletes in attendance and the Discus event alone had 76 entries. Smith placed 30th in the overcrowded field which is commendable on its own but the Big News comes from hearing that our newly created Student Athlete is going to continue his pursuit of Track and Field beyond High School 🏫.

Smith is on his way to WCC for College and the search is already on for ways to compete in his newly found passion!

Smith and his story is a breathe of Fresh Air and its exciting to know that it hasn’t come to an end!
