Sadly for those of us that openly root for Good Guy πŸ‘¦ Kenny Brooks we won’t get one more chance to cheer him and his Hokies on one more time on Monday night

Throughout the NCAA Women’s Basketball πŸ€ season I have bragged on Coach Kenny everytime I could, even when he was beating down Duke (Hokies 2, Blue Devils 1).

Brooks was the type of Coach that sooooooo many people wanted to claim as their own and for good reason. Brooks is what’s right about the College game today. The folks in his hometown of Waynesboro, Virginia were proudly on the We Love Kenny train πŸš† this week as were the people in Lexington that remember the early days at VMI.

I fit into the endless group of people that went through successful season after successful season at the helm of James Madison University with Coach Brooks. Naturally you have to add the members of Hokie Nation that discovered the talents of the Coach of the Valley inside of the past decade.

Virginia Tech led Louisiana State 59-50 late in the third quarter before the Tigers πŸ… went on a 24-6 run that took the Hokies from nine up to nine down. The fight in VT won the remainder of the contest 7-5 but sadly the damage had been done.

Brooks took over a program that wasn’t accustomed to getting invited to the Big Dance all that often and in his third full recruiting class took the program to a Top Seed and eventually to its first ever Final Four appearance.

Yes, getting to Monday night would have been nothing short of Amazing but the fact that this year’s ride pulled into the Station just short of winning a Natty doesn’t make it any less enjoyable for those of us that have been on the Kenny Brooks train for a long, long time.

Keep up the Excellent work, Sir !

Those times when spell check is not your friend…

The system that I use here on the site takes my finished product and pops it out but in doing so it overrides my spelling of names when it publishes it. I quickly find these and correct them but sadly the two dozen subscribers get the initial version. For this I apologize and welcome any of the 24 to point out the oops as Kris just did with Cordy which for some reason the system wants to make Corey.

Then because the Special section listed Alyssa Ervin as Irvin our program thinks that I can no longer spell Ervin. Computers πŸ–₯……….

50 were Invited to partake in the Upcoming Book πŸ“– and we are fast approaching the deadline for Entries.

The final phase of a long Friday was to compare notes with my Co-Pilot on the project, Kris Richardson. Our 35 minutes included a list of the Folks that we still need to hear from and the results were encouraging.

Once we have gathered all of the entries the next task will be to place them in the correct order as we tell the story from beginning to end. The decision on how to list the 13 Young Ladies at the center of the story – Alphabetical Order !

Progress is being made and on Monday morning we move to Phase Two !

The Day that I tried to keep up with the Boys πŸ‘¦ and Girls πŸ‘§ Track team (and fell short by probably 2 hours)

Knowing that my path would not cross with the Student Athletes of the Spring Track team very often I wanted to dedicate a full day to try and live in their Track shoes πŸ‘ž.

That day was today and here’s how it played out- I estimated that the team would have to wake ⏰ up around 6am and get ready for School 🏫. Then they would attend Morning classes so I matched that by writing ✍ a Tennis story for the Carroll News.

Next up the team would load a School Bus 🚌 and head up Highway 100 in the direction of Radford. I had a slight advantage here in that I rode in the comfort of my Car πŸš—.

We pulled into the parking lot at the same time and I captured a picture πŸ“· of the first person of the Bus.

At the 5 hour mark I was riding high and feeling up to the challenge. The actual competition started just past Noon at five different locations on a less than desirable Weather Day and the first of the 51 events with CCHS (47 Individual, 4 Relay) got underway.

The goal for the event had little to do with results and a great deal about the commitment πŸ‘ from this group. As each hour passed and the weather refused to improve, the Carroll County group continued to just roll with it.

Still feeling up to the task as we reached hour #11 on the day as I continued to search out Cavaliers to get pictures πŸ“· of.

It was sometime during the 13th hour that I realized that I was in trouble and the 14th hour would be spent driving πŸš— back home.

The amazing thing about giving up after 14 hours was the fact that 10 of the 35 events were still waiting to take place.

I’m left to wonder what time the Bus will make it back to our School 🏫 on the Hill ? If you see one of these young People tomorrow at School🏫 give them some props for representing their Team in such a Top Shelf manner !

That’s how tired I am, forgot it was Friday night πŸŒ™ so there’s no School tomorrow. Thankfully for our Track squad !
