Ron has been working on a number of items for us this week and we knew that he would be a creative person and everything would be Top Shelf. Today we found out that Ron is also rather Comical.
The thought of having an individual that can handle all of our print and design needs is answered prayer 🙏. Getting all of that and to have him also be able to brighten ones day with his wit is like finding a Bag of Money 💰 under your pillow!
Ron keep giving it your Best and know that You are the Man in the Middle of everything or Brandi’s Dad👨. Either way you’re Pretty good at it.
There are two parts to this antidote. The photograph above is from the Pavillion we are finishing up with this weekend in Page County and a little while ago I was being given credit for the fact that I took the time to order the roofing in the Schools color.
The second one comes from the desk of Brandi after she read my article that both Praised Coach Motley and stated that the only way we lose the game tonight would be if our Bus Driver couldn’t find Pulaski County High School.
I had to smile when Brandi let me know that the Awesome Coach and the Bus 🚌 Driver were one in the same. That just makes the story more amusing to me but that was just dumb luck.
I also have to smile about matching the paint scheme at Page County because that was just a bigger bag of Dumb Luck.
Last thought before I get ready for Softball practice – if anyone is curious about the fact that on a night like tonight I won’t write an actual game story. The ultimate goal has always been to offer information about our Student Athletes that Alan Worrell at the Carroll News simply doesn’t have the room for.
Alan will be there tonight and he will ✍ write a nice gamer for his newspaper 📰. The goal is not to compete with the Carroll News but just like the Duck on the Nick Saban and Deion Sanders Aflac commercials, offer supplemental coverage.
Knowing that Alan will have the business end of things covered simply let’s me work on bigger things such as practicing counting to twenty. Should I count up to 20 or down from 20??? So much responsibility…..
Coach Mark Motley, pictured above with Spotswood Head Coach Chris Dodson, has his team sitting at 25-1 today. The team is now two games away from going Back-to-Back in the highly competitive Virginia Class 3 Girls Basketball 🏀.
Was does it take to get to 25-1? Was the schedule full off cupcakes 🧁? Did they play any tough teams ?
Let’s now go to the Where are they now portion of the program.
Ten of those games were played inside of the Three Rivers District which are games you have to play. Some of them were soft contests but let’s focus on the second best team in the league – Floyd County. The Cavaliers swept the Buffaloes with the margins being 35 and 46 points. FCHS just lost in the State Quarterfinals at the buzzer down at Wise, Virginia 68-66.
Outside of the District – Anybody remember that Saturday afternoon down in North Carolina when the Girls clawed their way to a 15 point victory over Salisbury ? They are still playing in the North Carolina State tournament at sit at 26-3.
The trek up to Salem to play Liberty Christian Academy ? LCA is still playing basketball 🏀 right now and I think they have a game tonight ????.
How about the Home and Home versus the folks kind enough to let us play in their Gym tonight ?
CCHS swept the Home and Home against PCHS by 26 and 6 points. But how good are they really 🤔?
How about 25-3 and playing a State Semi-final three exits up I-81 tonight. That would be 25-1 against teams not named Carroll County.
Two contests against Spotswood, one in the regular season and one more in the State Quarterfinals. Another pair of Top Notch victories.
Barren County (Kentucky) just finished their season yesterday at 28-7 when they were finally eliminated by Bowling Green in the State Playoffs.
Wren (South Carolina) – 26-6 and was just eliminated in their State Tournament.
The one blemish on the Carroll County ledger was a loss down in Tennessee against Hebron Christian Academy of Georgia. They currently sit at a lofty 31-0 and are on the verge of a State Championship down South.
Coach put his team on the court with the Best of the Best, every chance he could all season long and that’s why there will be no Stage Frieght tonight or Friday afternoon.
We are putting the finishing touches on our Huge Banquet plans for our event this Sunday up in Page County and I was telling them we would arrive for the final prep on Friday evening by way of Richmond. When asked if I was assuming a victory on Monday before the game is played, I responded that the only way that Carroll County doesn’t make it back to Richmond is if the Bus Driver can’t find his way to Pulaski County High School Monday night.
These young Ladies are as locked 🔒 in as they can be right now and its because their Coach mapped out the path incredibly well!
The toughest part left ahead of tonight is getting this team into the building. LCA is a high quality basketball 🏀 program. How do I know that? Because Coach put them on our regular season schedule.
Jaelyn Hagee is closing in on a number this week and that number is 1,000 as in 1,000 Career Varsity Points scored. This number is a bench mark in the game of basketball 🏀 at both the High School and College level.
Amazing 👏 fact about this particular group of Lady Cavaliers 👩, if/when the points that put her over the top would be the third such moment for the team this SEASON. There are some schools that don’t have three combined 1,000 point scorers between the Men’s and Women’s program in school history, let alone three cross the threshold inside of a six week period.
Flashing back to over four decades ago to when a tragic accident ended my own High School Basketball playing days I set out to try and find a way to stay connected to the game that I loved. This led me to the creation of my very first effort to shine a light on others. Sports and More was the creation of a 16 year old that needed something to fill a void.
First in Missouri and later in South Carolina I created a small network that allowed me to track local high school players scoring totals. When a player crossed the 950 point line I would make it a Point, Humor intended, to travel to their games in hope of capturing the shot or free throw that actually puts him or her over the mark. I was able to actually get this done seven times as a teenager and it was a lead in to my outlook on life. Get the picture 📷 blown up and present it and a plaque to the Parents was the goal. Sometimes it would happen on shot number one and I think that seven field goal attempts was the high end.
The easiest way to capture a clean shot is if the final point comes on a Free Throw. Less dramatic but more picture friendly.
To answer the obvious question about not having this done for Alyssa Ervin or Kalee Easter in the weeks past ? Being the King 🤴 of Equality and all- I wasn’t in the know of Miss Ervin’s pursuit and on the day that Miss Easter broke the mark I was in Tunstall covering the Boys final game.
So for the next few days I will be on a mission to capture the Moment, if and when it happens. It could be tonight or it could be Friday afternoon but with this group of teammates I feel pretty comfortable it will happen. My efforts will be done as quietly as possible for two reasons. First, the team is in the middle of something pretty special and there’s no desire to be a distraction.
Secondly, on a team full of young Ladies that play with a scary level of intensity on the court I believe that Miss Hagee is the most intense of the team of intensity. Now, that’s as close as I will come to admitting being afraid of a High School Girl 👧.
Obviously, that just my attempt to applaud 👏 just how focused this group is when they play the game of Basketball 🏀.
I only need one thing for sure, that the number is an even 980 going in. Because if I have that number wrong it kinda defeats the purpose.
