Live – Tonight we have a Basketball 🏀 Trifecta, starting with the JV Girls(L,W,W)

Three teams, Three Games and Two Gyms separated by 15 miles – Piece of Cake 🎂, Anniversary Cake 🎂 even. Happy to be Celebrating our 38th Anniversary tonight and what better way to do it then to try and chase down some Cavaliers Hoops.

Tonight will be the final game of the JV Boys season so that will be our main focus but let’s start with the JV Girls 👧

1st quarter is in the books 📚! 11-6 Galax

Change of Venue at the Half.

Now in the gymnasium for the final game for the JV Boys 👦

Galax 10, Cavaliers 8 after the 1st quarter

Cavaliers score the last 9 points of the first half, taking a 23-19 lead into the break. Isiah Easter and Dane Leonard both scored 8 points in the half. It was a follow-up by Easter that dropped as the buzzer sounded that capped the run 🏃‍♂️

Cavaliers Defense pitched a 3rd quarter shut out and extended the run 🏃‍♂️ to atleast 17-0 if not 20-0.

Such a wonderful thing when a run 🏃‍♂️ is so long you can’t remember exactly when it started!

Game story later on the Boys JV Victory, 44-28

Game #3 of 3 is underway !

11-11 @ 3:24 (1)

11 – 17 End of First Quarter

After the 1st quarter our Brain 🧠 Trust got together and…..

Davis Reitzel and company when out quite the shooting rampage, allowing a 19-1 run 🏃‍♂️ to take place immediately and then the score over the final three quarters was 63-29.

CCHS 74, Galax 43

Cavaliers…..11…..21…..25…..17…..74

Galax…………17…..7…….9…….10…..43

The sweep of Galax gets added to the pile of Non-District 2 -0 match ups. The Cavaliers also swept Blacksburg , Grayson County and Fort Chiswell outside of the Three Rivers District.

Now the team must play the waiting game to see which of the Regional slots they will fall into. The postseason begins with the #7-#10 and the #8-#9 contests here shortly.

Next up will be the Boys JV Gamer…

Regional Wrestling Saturday morning in Christiansburg – Doors open at 9:15, Matches start at 10:00

Just received a copy of the email that rolls out the plans for Saturdays event. It also mentioned that they will be using three mats instead of just two which will mean the gym will feel a touch more cramped when it comes to room for spectators.

Admission will be $8 and the doors 🚪 will open up at 9:15 am.

It will be our hopes to provide as much coverage as possible on our Wrestling team.

Your 2022 – 2023 Varsity Boys Basketball Team

While I am going to hold off on the verbiage portion of the story I wanted to share the 10 Headshots from the members of this year’s Carroll County High School Boys Basketball 🏀 team.

Coach Barnes was kind enough to allow access to his group yesterday afternoon and while some of the story will be told once Coach is up to speed I wanted to share the photos 📷

Here’s one thing that I can tell you about all 10 of these young Men – they Love playing the game for CCHS in general and Coach Barnes in particular.

The Q & A portion of yesterday’s visit will be available shortly and I hope that its as much fun to read as it was to participate.

Corrections and Apologies

It has been brought to my attention that I have misspelled two names recently and I wanted to first say Thank You for it being brought to my attention so that I could correct the errors and offer a sincere apologies.

Chris Richardson is actually Kris Richardson and while I know its Nathan Redd but I’m guessing spell check flipped it to Reed more than once.

It’s my intention to bring a Positive Light to the things we do here in Carroll County and when an error is made PLEASE let me know so it can be corrected.

Three remaining Basketball teams conclude their regular season today vs Galax

The Varsity Lady Cavaliers played their final regular season game last Saturday and today everyone else joins them in crossing the Finish Line.

While the opponent is Galax for all three contests they will be played both home (JV Girls) and away (JV and Varsity Boys). The Home game is set for 5:00 while the games at Galax will start at their normal time – 6:00pm & 7

Tonight will be the final stop for Coach Jason Stockner and his team as the Post Season event on the Boys side will only include the #1 & #2 teams. The team has continued to grow all season and it will be fun to watch the progress of these young men as they look to make the move up to play for Coach Barnes in the years to come.

Being this will be final game of the season for this group it will be our featured game on the night.

The fact that the games will be played in two places will divide the crowds a bit but the Girls JV contest was a late add on just a couple of weeks ago. The two teams agreed to play a Home and Home with CCHS taking the away contest in a close game.

The Girls will head back to Floyd on Saturday for the #1 & #2 contest against the top seed Buffaloes.

The Boys path to these games has been a fluid one in that they have fallen on a number of planned dates going back to December. The game allows one final time for the team to add points to their season total before the mathematicians at NASA break out their seeding formulas.

Galax hasn’t played to the level of recent Maroon Tide teams this season so the Cavaliers should expect their best shot tonight.

Plenty more to come as the day develops!
