LIVE from both Salem & Richmond and finally on the Hill! #Cavaliers (All Day Blog)

Nicholas Perkins Family

information coming from multiple sources so the goal is to post now and sort later.

I also need to note that some of these pics belong to Shannon Dalton and some to Paul’s Son-in-Law.

Ethan Edwards Family

Good News here – it took some doing but all 4 wrestlers made weight !

Bradley Daltons Family 👪 – Mom’s not pictured because she’s helping as a timer.

First Update – 200 Freestyle Relay swam 1:52 & will compete this evening !

Moments away from first matches here

Christyan was the first alternate in his weight class and was moved up to the competition when one of the Top Four fell out

10:00 – official start time here

Wrestlers always have a minimum of 45 minutes between matches.

We are officially Wrestling now on our Mats, #5,6,7 &8!

RICHMOND – 200 Medley Relay clocks a time of 1:52.81

Camden DeHaven Family 👪

Mr. Dalton was first on the mat at 10:32 am. The match was tied 2-2 early in the 1st

There will be a break before the final two Cavaliers have their first match at 190 & 215.

Both Dalton and Stillwell dropped their opening matches but later today will have the opportunity to wrestle back through the Consolation bracket.

The volume of the amount of Wrestling that is taking place across 8 mats and 3 Classes is impressive 👏 to say the least.

The morning session should be wrapping up in Richmond soon and I hope to be able to gather some more updates when the break at Noon.

Here, Andrew Meyers (190) is headed towards the mat so he could be in action 🎬 in the next 10 minutes.

“Tex” has a flair for the dramatic once again! Meyers fell behind 7-1 early then rallied for an 8-7 lead in the final period and then proceeded to Advance by a Pin 📌

Louis Marshall and the Coaches are getting ready for the 215 pound match.

Louis Marshall has completed his 215 pound match and now the Cavaliers first round is now completed.

. Andrew Meyers (190) moves into the Quarterfinals while Nathaneal Dalton (138), Christyan Stillwell (144) and Louis Marshall (215) wrestle next on the Consolation side of the bracket.

On a break here until 1pm.

Use two fingers to enjoy the results

Godspeed to the Richardson Family 👪 as they head back for the basketball game 🏀.

Marion says there’s a boat 🚢load of Pics coming soon !

The Internet here inside the Civic Center is getting it done !

By my unofficial account we are headed to the finals in 10 events ! Swimming 🏊‍♂️ resumes at 5pm

Here in Salem we are in the Quarterfinals and Consolation rounds.

Rambo with an early pin 📌 and the Dream continues for Mr. Dalton ! Had a nice picture 📷 of him and the ref holding his arm but there was an unfortunate photo bomb 💣

Next up – Christyan Stillwell (144)

Unfortunately for Christyan is match was cut short by an injury in the second period. The area of the injury would appear to be his shoulder but he’s back amongst us here in the stands.

Congratulations 👏 on an outstanding season !

The Cavaliers will have a break of roughly 40 minutes or so before Andrew “Tex” Meyers wrestles next.

I note that I would like to add in regards to being a High School wrestler – you must be PATIENT. The Cavaliers entered the Civic Center at 7am and there’s a decent chance that they will be here until atleast 7pm.

It’s now 2:37pm and both Andrew Meyers and Louis Marshall are 7+ hours into their day and have competed just once so far for less than 10 minutes.

Still to come…….

2:48 pm – The Coaches and Tex have headed to the floor so we should be within 15 minutes of our next Cavaliers match!

Louis Marshall has now completed his season and a Great Junior season it was. Congratulations 👏 on your year !

Andrew “Tex” Meyers comes up short in his second round match but will live to fight another round as will Nathaneal Dalton.

3:30pm – Our Cavaliers have completed their participation in Phase 2. Wrestling is set to resume at 4:30pm

Tex was in pretty good spirits and ready for his next Match !

3:53 – Next stop, Laurel Fork to pack for Georgia and then a quick look see in Hillsville on the way to I-77.

5:43 – Pretty sure I lost 25 degrees between Salem and Laurel Fork !

Tip – 6:09pm, Cavs 10-2 Early !!!

Night 🌙 swimming 🏊‍♂️ in Richmond is underway

Results from Richmond –

200 Medley Relay – 1:56.91, 15th Place

Ogle, Dalton, Perkins and McGrady

2200 Freestyle – Ethan Edwards – 15th Place 2:14.50

200 IM – Bradley Dalton – 15th Place 2:20.91

Both the 1st and 2nd quarters ended with the Cavs running 🏃‍♂️ down the clock ⏰ and then draining a 3-pointer. Bryce Smoot and Jabin Talley in that order.

Hidden Valley is a skilled basketball 🏀 team, don’t let the score fool you. The Cavs just played their best 16 minutes of Basketball. I can hear Coach Barnes in the locker room saying its because of the questions……. sorry, couldn’t help myself.

6:46 pm – I believe that I am caught up on Richmond but still need to Wrestling updates from Salem.

The Student section !

Hidden Valley opens the 3rd quarter on an 8-0 run to pull within six points before Bryce connects on a NBA 3-pointer.

CCHS matches the 8-0 run 🏃‍♂️, lead back up to 14

Hidden Valley hits 3 straight 3 pointers to get within five before Bryce scores the final five of the quarter to make it 54-44 with 8 minutes remaining.

Much more to come

It’s now 10:00pm so its a good time for an update – I know that the Basketball 🏀 is covered and I believe that the Swimming 🏊‍♂️ is covered so what we have left is 2 wrestling Match results.

I will leave this one open until we have those for you.

My man Marion still at it !

#WonderfulHumanBeing

Once again I think that we have shared all of the pictures 📷 we have but there’s still hope of finding some that I missed.

Made it safely to Hotlanta as I like to call it and I have just enough brain 🧠 left to invest a few minutes into the final wrestling update!

Mr. Dalton won his 3rd match in a walk but fell in his fourth match..

Mr. Meyers fell in his next match but both of these two young men did the School 🏫 Proud. As did Mr. Stillwell and Mr. Marshall !

Plenty of break down coming on all three of these events but with the Baseball team Breakfast in just four hours it will come later today.

A 22 hour ride from start to finish but if it helped to capture the moment for any of the young men and their families then it was worth it !!!

I owe someone a made 4th quarter Free Throw

Good Night All

Justice –

Trailblazer Damian Lillard

Justice – The rush that comes from playing, the level of excitement.

QUESTION #4 – You are on a Podium about to receive an Award – whose on your Thank You list?

Justice – My Mother ( Jennifer Utt) and Coach Barnes.

Ladies and Gentlemen – Mr. Justice Bowden

Inside the Wrestling Room with Freshman Michael Cruz

Michael competes in 106 pound weight class but was recovering from a broken elbow at the end of the season that prevented him from competing at the Regional meet.

Michael took the time to answer our two part question of the day – (1) Favorite part of being on the Cavaliers team and (2) What advice would you give a fellow classmate if he or she was interested in Wrestling ?

Michael – I enjoy being part of the team. I enjoy the time and the Coaches are really nice and support us in our efforts.

Advice – Come out for the team but you have to stay committed to the team and be prepared to run and do drills.

Ladies & Gentlemen – Michael Cruz

What kind of Day is it going to be ? Richmond, Salem , Hillsville and then onto Lawrenceville, Georgia

Welcome to a Highly anticipated Friday that will begin in Laurel Fork with stops ✋ in Salem, Hillsville and finally Lawrenceville, Georgia and the entire day is possible because Mr. DeHaven is going to report on the Swimming 🏊‍♂️ Cavaliers up at the Swim RVA in Richmond.

Not going to call him Coach on this one because its his role as a Father that’s going to help everyone keep up to date on as much of the CCHS action as possible.

Here’s what we know going in – the Lady Cavaliers are the #1 seed and have a Bye tonight.

The Boys team is hosting Hidden Valley at 6pm in the #7/#10 contest with the winner earning a trip to Tunstall on Tuesday.

The Boys 🏊‍♂️ Team will wake up in the Richmond area here in a few hours and will be in the Pool from 9am until Noon in the State preliminary round. Anyone advancing to the Finals will be back in the Pool at 5pm.

Four members of the Wrestling team will be awake soon in Salem but we aren’t sure how many of them will be able to enjoy breakfast before heading to the Civic Center for the weigh-in process at 8am.

The Wrestling meet will be a double elimination format with 16 people competing in each Wright class.

Then it will be back to Hillsville for the 6pm tip against the Titans before the five hour drive down to the Atlanta area ahead of the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears Baseball weekend.

The coverage from the Civic Center in Salem can happen because of Mr. DeHaven offering to keep us up to speed on the Laps being swam in the pool.

There wasn’t a way to try and choose one over the other when they are competing on an equal stage so I was leaning on doing both of them after the fact but now its possible for Live coverage of the Athletes as they try to cap off their year of hard work and dedication to their Sport.

Let’s have some fun with a HUGE day for all of the Cavaliers that will be competing for CCHS today!
