Welcome to the 2023 Chance Harmon Classic

CCHS Boys Varsity basketball 🏀 is just about to get underway in the Main Gym at Floyd County High School versus Alleghany High School

Tip aat1:30 !

8 minutes in the books and we’re knotted up at 8-8. The Cavaliers are listed as the home team on the scoreboard. Four different Cavs scored a basket in the opening frame with each one coming inside of the 3-point line.

Both offenses found a bit more rhythm in the second quarter but the Mountaineers connected on all eight of their free throws in the opening half which allows AHS to take a 29-25 lead into the break.

A 6-0 spurt allowed the Cavs to turn a 19-14 deficit into a 20-19 lead. Ethan Richardson connected on the teams first 3-Ball and was one of six Cavaliers to score in the first half. Elijah Cox finished with 8 points and David Reitzel added seven despite playing the bulk of the half with two fouls.

Second Half action just moments away.

A picture 📷 perfect 6-0 run gives the lead back to CCHS. Cox, Reitzel and Bryce Smoot all convert layups to give the Cavs. A 33-31 lead and force an AHS TO.

What a 3rd quarter !!!

Teams have traded timeouts with 0:10.9 remaining and the score tied at 49-49.

Headed to OT !!!

What a thrilling finish for the Varsity Boys as they ride the momentum of the game tying basket at the end of regulation to capture a 57-54 contest. More to follow later but for now its time to head over to the Old Gym for the Junior Varsity contest between the same two schools.

Friday Basketball 🏀 has a unique feel on the schedule

The normal routine for game day is 5:30 and 7:00 start times at two different schools. Today’s games will be slightly different for both the Girls and Boys Basketball teams.

On the Girls side the Lady Cavaliers will still be heading up to Radford but instead of 5:30 (JV) and 7:00 (V) the slate will just have one contest and it will begin at 6:00pm.

The Junior Varsity game has been canceled and the Varsity Girls will move up one hour and tipoff at 6pm.

The Boys are set to host Alleghany County High School but will do so over at Floyd County High School. The schedule is set to get underway just past 1pm with the Varsity squads playing first and the JV taking the court closer to 3pm.

Third times a charm as Varsity Boys Basketball 🏀 finally gets to play Grayson County

Postponed once my illness and a second time by inclimate weather the Cavaliers and Blue Devils were finally able to play some hoops.

Davis Reitzel wasted little time in showing everyone that he was ready by pouring in 11 points in the opening minutes of action. CCHS 18-9 nearing the end of the opening quarter.

One quarter in the books 📚!and its looking good for the Cavs. Reitzel finished the frame with 11 and four other Cavaliers joined in the fun.

Seven Cavs have scored a basket as the teams offense is clicking at a high speed. Reitzel leads with 13 points with Elijah Cox next with 9 and Ethan Richardson has 7 points at the break.

Reitzel added 13 more points to his already impressive total in the third quarter as the Cavaliers outran the Blue Devils 27-15 in the frame.

With the outcome out of reach at 72-37 both Coaches made sure that everyone on their roster was able to record a few minutes of game action.

Grayson outscored CCHS 9-8 over the final 8:00 but it was way too little and too late to keep the Cavaliers victory celebration from taking place after the final horn.

Reitzel finished with a game high 26 points with one small hiccup. The #5 jersey didn’t survive the fourth quarter as it was swapped out for a #34 shirt. Luckily the Cavs didn’t need the #34 version as the fourth quarter played out.

Elijah Cox added 16 points and was joined in double figures by Jabin Talley (12) and Ethan Richardson (10). Eight players scored in what would have to be called a Total Team Victory for CCHS!

JV Boys Basketball 🏀 hosting Grayson County

One night after hosting Glenvar over at the Middle School the JV Cavs return to the Big Gym for a Non-District contest vs Grayson County.

CCHS calls a TO after Grayson scores back to back baskets to tie the game at 10-10. Both teams playing aggressive defense, forcing a multitude of turnovers.

10-10 @ the end of 1st quarter

Cavaliers lead 15-14 with 1:40 left in the first half.

At the Half – Blue Devils 😈 16, Cavaliers 15

Cavs complete a 9-0 run early in the third quarter behind the play of Isaiah Easter and Dane Leonard.

Girls practice has concluded as the Lady Cavs start to join the crowd.

TO – Grayson County as Cavs now lead 32-24 after Easter converts an And 1 (1:29 )

3rd quarter ends with the Cavaliers leading 37-26 after taking the seven minutes 22-10.

3:05 remains – Cavs 46-32

48-34 is your final score in another Cavalier victory!

Congratulations 👏👏👏
