This story will be anything but a Game story because it would be hard to write β a Gamer on an 81-19 victory for the Lady Cavaliers. With that said I’m going to go down a different path altogether.
My Friday began up in Page County, Virginia where our Non-profit organization is capping off our biggest project to date. Through a series of Volunteers and a great deal of bartering we are finishing up a 72 foot by 36 foot Pavillion that will act as a shelter for the Page County High School Softball programs Batting Cages.

This photo π· was pre the metal getting added. There was a nice piece on the Local TV station about what we are doing up there and how we are getting it done.
A young man named Travis Knight had reached out and wanted to know if he could get involved in our Cause and it turns out he’s an Electrician. Travis was offering to add lights to our Pavillion, donating his time.
I have been very active in leading the project and I told my wife that I had to make the drive π which is just under four hours each way. I promised her I would be back in time to pick her up and get to CCHS for the 5:30 tip.
I couldn’t have someone make that level of commitment to us without being up there and spend the five hours with them.
If you are ready to see how this gets back to the Lady Cavaliers I’m almost there. Trying hard to show my appreciation for his efforts I started asking Travis about some of his interests and I am telling him about our CCHS site because up there I’m mainly known for things like getting a building built for little or no cost.
I explained to Travis that I would be with him until just past Lunch and then I would be driving back the 200 miles because our Ladies were playing a game at 5:30. Then I mentioned that I would be up in Lexington at some point tomorrow ( at that time I wasn’t sure of the tip time).
Travis then tells me about one of his closest friends happens to be a High School Girls basketball π Coach at a nearby school up there.
He proceeds to ask me about our Girls and here’s my response – they are coming off winning the Schools first Basketball State Championship and that are incredibly talented and easy to pull for but they often don’t get a chance to display just how solid they are because they play teams that simply aren’t on the same level and others that don’t fully understand how to play the game.
I start telling him about our opponent tonight being James River and if Coach wanted to he could win the game 150-16. We spend a great five hours together and I make it back just before we tip.
At the end of the first quarter I send him a text that says the following – made it back safely and after 8 minutes we are leading 39-3. Coach wasn’t running a full court press and he played his entire roster by the end of the first 8:00
My last thing I mentioned to him was we were very excited about heading up to Lexington because our Ladies deserved to be challenged and I think they will at Rockbridge.
The last thing Travis tells me his dear friend is the Coach at Spotswood. Just too funny so at some point tomorrow I will try and sneak a picture with Coach D and send it to Travis as one last Thank You.
. That story was more fun for me then how this would have sounded – CCHS edged James River a whole lot to the opposite of a whole lot.
The 10 Ladies are well coached, disciplined and a very, very talented. Besides all of that they are just FUN to watch. Here’s hoping that they get an opportunity to play a meaningful second half. If you see me trying hard to get a selfie with the Trail Blazers Coach know that’s for my new friend Travis.

I have to add one basketball π note about the actual game – Lauren Alley had herself a MONSTER πΉ game. 22 points including 8 of 11 from the free throw line. All of this in the first three quarters.
Fellow Senior Jaelyn Hagee flirted with a double double with 10 points and 9 steals. Alyssa Ervin netted 16 points by the break where the score was 58-9. The Junior would finish with that same total as her offense wasn’t needed the rest of the way.
Fun Fact – When Katie Lam connected on a 3-pointer during the 3rd quarter it finished filling out the score sheet – all 10 played and all 10 scored.

Mission Accomplished Travis !
