Carroll County JV Girls roll 39-28 over Chilhowie

There’s already a Live Blog from the game full of pictures so for a change of pace let’s do an actual Gamer…

Chilhowie – Carroll County overcame an uncharacteristic slow start to defeat Chilhowie 39-28 on the road Wednesday night.

Carrie Delp scored 16 points to lead the offense for Head Coach Kayla Nester while the defense was absolutely a team effort. Savannah Swecker joined Delp in double figures, much to the delight of her family members enjoying the action in the small gym.

Before the offense found their feet the defense was also struggling. The hometown Warriors jumped to a 9-1 lead before the fans had opened their popcorn. Just as quickly as the hole was dug Delp and Callie Harris combined for 11 first quarter points, allowing the Cavs to lead 13-11 at the end 9f the frame.

CCHS pushed the run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ out to 19-2 and a lead of 20-11. Delp scored 8 of the teams 14 points in the second quarter which allowed the Halftime lead to be 27-15.

The contest was being played in 6:00 minute increments and the third quarter belonged to Swecker. Swecker connected three times, twice from behind the 3-point line. The defense continued to blanket Chilhowie and the lead was 39-22 late in the quarter.

Chilhowie would score the final three points in the third quarter and the only three points scored in the fourth quarter. Nester continued to rotate her deep roster throughout the second half with the players seeing action well into double figures.

The team will return to action Friday night at the Middle School 🏫 on the Hill hosting James River.
