Our Team of the Week : Girls JV Basketball πŸ€

Let’s start the story by going back to Friday night at Glenvar High School 🏫. Head Coach Kayla Nester was preparing her team for a contest against the Highlanders, a team her Cavaliers had defeated 59-4 last month in Hillsville.

Callie Harris, Laiken Burnette, Corrie Delp, Bayleigh Allen and Jocie Dalton took the floor to start the contest for CCHS with a simple plan that included playing the game the right way. When you are facing an opponent that is struggling to compete the challenge has to come from within, or atleast that is what one would think ???

Delp scored four points in each of the first two quarters and then added a basket early in the third quarter to lead the team in scoring with 10 points.

The team defense pitched the rare first half shut out and led at the break 22-0.. Allen was next with 6 points while a trio of players (Harris, Madison Coleman and Makenzey McMillan) each contributed four points in the 34-13 victory.

The final score of the victory was not the story to report in as much its the joy that the Starters share with their teammates once their playing time is over on a given night. With a roster that runs 14 deep there are plenty of players ready for their turn out on the floor.

The loudest cheers you will here on any given game night come from the Cavaliers bench once the reserves have taken over. The screams and roars of support are what is right about High School sports.

Sadly, the Little Team that Can is held back by the limited number of times they get to take the floor. Both Radford and Alleghany don’t have JV squads which cost the Cavaliers four regular season games.

Mother Nature took a game off the schedule earlier when the Girls were set to play in the Championship game in a Tournament being played up at Ft. Chiswell as inclement weather caused the final day of competition to be canceled.

Tuesday night Radford comes to town for its annual visit which once again will limit the JV Girls to spectators for the evening but this time there’s wonderful news!!!! The following day the JV team will get to head down I-81 to Chilhowie High School for a Non-District contest at 6pm.

These 14 young Ladies are all dreaming about the day when they get to try and carry on the Legacy that is currently being built at CCHS. This becomes easier to chase when they get to lace up the sneakers πŸ‘Ÿ and play games.

The team will return home on Friday night to host James River High School 🏫
