Fun with Numbers : Cavaliers 191, Highlanders 131

CCHS returned home Friday from Glenvar having earned a four game split with the Highlanders.

While both the JV Boys and the Varsity Boys both fell just four points short the Girls teams won by a combined 68 points so if the night had a tiebreaker it goes to the visitors by a margin of 191-131!

It’s worth mentioning that all four teams represented the school well and equally important is that all four teams were supported well by the Cavaliers faithful fans. Not an easy task to get off work and make a ballpark range of 60 to 80 mile trek to support your teams but it happened in great numbers once again.

Monday night the Boys will be home and Tuesday night it will be the Girls turn to host the Radford Bobcats – Varsity only on Tuesday.

Lady Cavaliers continue to take care of Business, win 69-22 @ Glenvar

When your team is the defending 3A State Champions and has six returning Seniors in addition to an All-State Junior that just eclipsed 1,000 points it easy for folks to take winning a Three Rivers District game for granted.

Friday night the Lady Cavaliers showed up and performed to their level of play for the first half and carried a 44-10 lead into the locker room.

The number of blocked shots for CCHS was well into double figures and the suffocating defense held the home team to just 3 points in the opening frame.

Coming off a 5-0 sweep of District competition in the first half of the league schedule, the Cavaliers showed no sign of slowing down for the back half of the slate. All 10 players recorded solid minutes and eight found the scoring column in the 69-22 victory.

While it would be easy to go into a District game expecting a victory this season one should still take the time to appreciate just how hard these 10 Ladies work in representing CCHS.

Cavaliers Varsity Boys just keep on Going ! Late rally falls just short at Glenvar

CCHS was three quarters in to its fourth game in five nights at the scoreboard read Glenvar 42, Carroll County 29. The week that had been up to this point had finally caught up with Coach Barnes and his team or so it appeared.

Not so fast there young fella, just like the Eveready Bunny these Cavaliers just keep going. Bryce Smoot connected on a trio of 3-pointers down the stretch and Elijah Cox also added 9 points in the fourth quarter as the Cavs chased Glenvar right until the final horn.

Smoot finished up with a team high 24 points and Cox added 16 and they willed their team to within a basket with just over one minute remaining in the contest. Glenvar would eventually prevail 57-53 to sweep the season series but winning by just four tonight and five points last month.

The final total on the week will show the Cavaliers went 2-2 over the four contests but had to winover their fan base by playing hard for 32 minutes all four nights.

The news is out there in that you cannot sleep on this years Cavs squad because just like that cute pink Bunny, this teams keeps on going !

The start of next week promises to be a challenge as CCHS plays a home and home with District leading Radford on Monday and Wednesday before finishing up the week on Friday by hosting James River. Four District games remain before the season wraps up with Non-District contests with Blacksburg and Galax.

One thing is for sure, these Cavs will give their Coach and their fans 32 minutes every night.
