Inside the numbers for our JV Ladies vs Floyd County

While I was over at the Middle School 🏫 with the JV Boys both my wife Linda and Mr. Marion Harris were keeping me up to speed on our JV Girls contest with the visiting 🐃 Buffaloes.

Mr. Harris captured the opening jump ball and Lin tracked the scoring so that we could offer up the results of the contest before the end of the evening.

After falling behind 9-3 over the opening 7:00 minutes of action the Cavaliers battled back throughout the contest behind the scoring of Corrie Delp (11 points) and Laiken Burnette (10 points).

Delp scored at the buzzer to end the first quarter to trim the deficit from 9-1 to 9-3 and the Cavs continued to fight back, pulling within 16-13 and eventually 18-14 before the visitors went on a 10-4 run to close out the third quarter.

Delp scored six of the Cavs eight fourth quarter points to allow the team to capture the quarter 8-3 to finish up on the short end of a 31-26 decision.

CCHS battled to the end but came up just short of digging out of the early eight point deficit.

The JV Girls will return to the court on Friday night in Salem vs Glenvar in a rematch of one of the more impressive victories for the season when the teams played at home earlier in the season.

Unofficial Scoring : Corrie Delp 11, Laiken Burnette 10, Savanah Swecker 4, Natalie Burress 1.

Jump Ball #4 of 4 – Boys Varsity ready to host Floyd County High

Floyd County jumps out to an early 5-0 lead and the Cavs take a TO in hopes of regrouping.

Large crowd continuing to get their 💰’s worth as most have stayed to see the night cap.

1st quarter in the books 📚! Cavs in search of a comeback with plenty of time left to mount one.

Cavs were able to trim the deficit to four at 23-19 but the visitors scored the final basket of the half to lead by 6 at the break. Balanced scoring as five Cavs have scored for Coach Barnes in the opening 16 minutes.

Cavs pull within 27-23 and Floyd calls a TO

In my third year of living here I might have found the answer as to whether Floyd County is our friendly neighbors or the team we love to play the most ?

Great atmosphere from the crowd is matching the intensity on the floor. Final 8:00 should be a fun ride.

FOURTH QUARTER :

5:31 left, Floyd 48-42

Cavs drop a tough one, 65-56. More later.

Back to the Big Building for Game #3 on the night – Girls Varsity vs Floyd, Win 78-30

Floyd County has a 2-0 lead on the night 🌙, after sweeping the JV contests but our Varsity Girls will look to defend the Home Court

Tip will take place around 6:09pm

Good News, Bad News for Floyd County and their fans in the first 8:00 . Good News is the Buffaloes are not playing timid against the Cavaliers.

Bad News – I am not sure its going to help with the outcome. Most squads that have traveled to the Hill have played with a certain amount of timidness in their game but not the Buffalo team.

Cavs take the opening frame 25-9

37-12 with 90 seconds left in the opening half.

Cavs push the lead to 44-12 after Alyssa Ervin hit a Steph Curry length 3-pointer right before the horn.

Alyssa Ervin hit a milestone at the 2:03 mark that led to the Junior being awarded the game ball in an ever so brief ceremony. After taking the ball over to her family she promptly went right back to playing ball hawking defense (pictured above). 1,000 career points!

Cavs take the 3rd quarter 20-7 and now lead 64-19.

7:14 pm – Final Score – Cavaliers 78-30 !

4th Quarter highlighted by Katie Lam connecting on four 3-pointers and nine of the 10 Cavaliers scoring in the victory.

Greetings from Game #1 of 4 on the Night 🌙- JV Boys

Under five minutes on the Clock ⏰ as we get ready for tip-off. Linda tells me that over at the High School gym they have the bleachers completely open with the expectation of a large crowd !

Nice weather for mid-January and its Floyd County night here on the Hill ! Buckle up and enjoy the next four hours of Cavaliers Basketball 🏀

FIRST QUARTER :

CCHS jumped out to a 4-0 lead but the first seven minutes ended with Floyd leading 10-6.

Delayed showing of the opening jump ball

17-11 Floyd after a Buffalo 3-pointer

Floyd came out of a Cavalier TO and went on a 14-2 run that turned a 14-11 contest in to a 28-13 lead for the visitors at the half.

Five Cavaliers scored in the first half with Dane Leonard leading the way with 5 points.

Both Marion Harris and Linda Carter are reporting scores from the High School where Floyd County leads at the half by a score of 16-9.

More on the Girls JV game after the 2nd half here at the Middle School.

3RD QUARTER :

43-22 FCHS with 1:44 remaining in the period.

Cavs continue to play hard and the offense is finding a grove but the Buffaloes continue to execute.

17-11 Floyd in the 3rd, 45-24 overall. The crowd is in playoff mode and the atmosphere should carry over to the High School later. Not an ounce of give in the Cavs.

4th QUARTER :

The Cavs open the final frame on a 14-7 run to pull within 52-38. 9 for 9 from the free throw line after Coach instructed his squad to go hard to the basket.

Cavaliers take the 4th quarter 19-17, finishing on a strong note !
