Short delay for some repair work to the backboard

Let’s Play Ball !

First Quarter was full of runs at AHS bolted to an 8-0 lead before the Cavs went 16-4 and the Mountaineers added the last two buckets.

8:00 minutes in and we are knotted at 16.

After falling behind 29-24 the Cavaliers finished off the first half on a 10-0 spurt. Two 3-pointers, 1 each from Ethan Richardson and Jabin Talley wrapped around an old fashioned 3 point play from Elijah Cox to key 🔑 the run.

Cavs went 7 for 8 from the free throw line with Cox (4 of 4) leading the way. Just as the JV contest went earlier we are in a game of runs.

Cox 10 points, Nathan Reed 7, Davis Reitzel 6, Ethan Richardson 5, Jabin Talley 3, Bryce Smoot 3

Great 3rd quarter of action with AHS taking the frame 19-16, trimming the Cavs lead to 50-48.

Cox with 16 and Reitzel with 14 lead the way.

My, oh My ! For now I can tell you that the Cavaliers will enjoy the Bus 🚌 Ride home 🏡 !!!

Game Story Later !!!

JV Boys @ Alleghany – running Blog, W 45-31

The first quarter proved to be one of streaks as CCHS scored the first six points before AHS posted nine unanswered and finally the Cavs scored the final five.

Seven minutes in the books 📚! With the Cavaliers leading 11-9

It’s certainly worth noting that the Cavs are being cheered on by a noticeable group of supporters !

The teams have headed to the locker room with the Cavaliers leading 18-14. After scoring the last five points in the opening frame the Cavs added the first five in the second. The 10-0 run was sparked as much by solid team defense as the ability to score.

AHS did not score in the second quarter until 1:31 remained in the half.

Isiah Easter leads the team in scoring with six points while both Jay Burnette and Blake Reed have added five for the Cavs. Halfway to a road victory!

3RD QUARTER :

Timeout Cavs (3:17) Tied 23-23

Bend but don’t break is best description for the Cavaliers in the third quarter. After AHS tied the score the Cavs refused to fall behind. CCHS leads 27-23 after three!

Fourth Quarter :

29-29 with 5:09 left on the clock ⏰

Gym is starting to fill in nicely

The Cavaliers close out the contest in a BIG WAY!

Easy enough to point to the 30 seconds of play that gave the Cavs the victory. Leading by four at 33-29, Blake Reed feathered a perfect pass to a cutting Landon Puckett for a back door lay-up. A few seconds later ball hawking Dane Leonard stole the ball and finished the play with an AND ONE.

The lead went from four to nine in a flash then Puckett went 2 for 2 from the free throw line. The Cavs closed the contest on a 12-2 run, guaranteeing the Bus 🚌 ride home will be a bit more enjoyable.

AHS tied the game a number of times but never regained the lead in the second half.

Unofficial Scoring : 45

Easter and Leonard with 11 apiece

Reed and Burnette with 7 each

Puckett 4

Dalton 3

Jackson 2

Cavaliers Game Night 🌙

The only way to make the trip up and over to Alleghany High School 🏫 a bit tougher from Laurel Fork is to lose the days notice. Assuming that the decision to push the games up one night 🌙 has to do with the possibility that the evening weather might be less than friendly.

The only concern as of now is that there’s no Carroll County High School Bus sitting in the parking lot at 4:44 but I’m sure it will arrive any minute now.

And then that happened ! We should be playing basketball 🏀 here in Covington within the Hour!!

The gym is open and the JV teams are in the warm-ups process. These two teams just played last week over at Floyd with Alleghany taking the JV contest while CCHS forced overtime at the buzzer and won in Overtime.

5:30 will be the start time tonight !

The coverage of the two contests will follow in separate posts shortly. Go Cavaliers !

Check the Calender – Boys hoops no longer heading to Galax today, instead trekking out to Alleghany

It was a casual late night 🌙 check of the schedule in hopes of confirming that the Boys Cavaliers were still set for a Non-District contest at Galax tonight and it would appear that the plan is now to make the ever so long trek over to Alleghany High School 🏫 a day early.

More details to follow if they become available.
