Welcome to the Highlands where its Time for some Lady Cavaliers Basketball 🏀(Live Blog)

Low Moor – Not sure how large of a crowd we will have tonight for a number of reasons.

First being there is only one contest which eliminates the crossover cheering.

Second – we are a long way from home 🏡 on both a work night and a school 🏫 night.

Third – the weather outside is less than desirable as it has been most of the day.

Fourth – the locals have the option of listening to a broadcast. I am thinking radio but could be something else.

But instead of focusing on the folks not here let’s applaud 👏 those who are !!!!

Warm up clock ⏰ down to under 4:00

Paul’s daughter has the less than official CCHS count at 16 and let’s start by APPLAUDING each and every one of them for making the trek!

Nightly attempt to capture the Opening Jump

The score was 20-10 early in the second quarter when the Cavaliers went on a run 🏃‍♂️ of 13-0 allowing the team to take a 33-12 into the locker room.

Kalee Easter started the spurt and Alyssa Ervin finished it off after a quiet first quarter. Ervin has 11 points and the break while Easter tallied eight. Both Jaelyn Hagee and Lauren Alley added five with Bella Crotts scoring four.

The first half did have a comical moment when one of the referees tuned a block into a charge and then gave the foul to Hagee. The second error on the call was the funny part as Hagee was sitting on bench at the time.

Ms. Hagee had herself a quarter! After scoring the first 10 points in the second half for the Cavaliers before assisting on the next three baskets during an 18-1 run 🏃‍♂️. AhS added three points near the end of the frame but the ship 🚢 has sailed.

Cavs 53-17 with 8:00 to play.

Tough call on the better story – another convincing victory or the 18 people around me that will now make the drive 🚗 back to Carroll County in the dark.

Hagee 15, Ervin 14, Easter 13, Crotts 6, Alley 5, Richardson 2……(55)

Safe Travels home 🏡 for All !

What do you mean that Beckley is not on the way to Alleghany High School?

Raise your hand if you’re Carroll County High School fan and you can’t wait for the next trip up and over to Covington….

If you give it some thought I am sure that others schools feel the same away about traveling to our place but this is our story so I’m not sure we really care about that part of things ?

Google Maps answered the question this morning as to how much longer my trip would be if I stopped by the Baseball ⚾️ office in Beckley on my way from Laurel Fork to Alleghany High ???

We (West Virginia Tech Golden Bears 🐻 baseball) open our season this weekend down in Johnson City, Tennessee and I needed to play catch-up before the weekend gets here.

I will be heading over to Alleghany shortly to do my normal Live Blog of our Girls Varsity Basketball 🏀 game but I wanted to share a last thought about the Swim 🏊‍♂️ meet coverage from last night provided by Marion Harris. Here’s another reason the effort was priceless – last week I attended one of our meets up in Daleville and quickly realized just how different Swimming 🏊‍♂️ is from say, Basketball.

Basketball is a very public event that takes place in a Gymnasium full of people and the Athletes wear jerseys with their numbers on them so they are easy to identify. The environment involved with a swimming 🏊‍♂️ (I can’t help myself, I love that emoji) meet is the complete opposite.

While I was able to take some photos and tried to describe the atmosphere it was far from “covering” the event. For someone to truly accomplish what Marion did last night 🌙 they would either have to be a Parent or a Coach that is already involved with the team. To try and get the same level of coverage from outside of the group would be incredibly difficult.

The other option would be to just try and find the results and do a Copy and Paste. This can work too but not nearly as well as what we teamed up to post did!

Anyone that enjoyed the Coverage from last night please mention that to Mr. Harris next time you see him.

I need to get some baseball ⚾️ stuff done so I can get over to AHS…..

Just a Quick Note on the 3 Sites tied to OneofUs.Care

I wanted to take enough time to list the three sites that are part of our Non-Profit Organization, OneofUs.Care

You are reading this on the site that is built for as much coverage that we can provide about the Student Athletes that represent Carroll County High School. We fund this site out of our Non-Profit and it shall always remain a free site that is intended for the residents of our home County and family members that live elsewhere.

The second site is the actual OneofUs.Care site which we use for the foundation and the third site is www. aroundthevalleyin60days.blogspot.com

http://www.aroundthevalleyin60days.blogspot.com

The third site acts as a go between for the Organization and the Sports Report or as I like to call it – a look inside my brain. The goals we are trying to achieve will take a while but fortunately my Wife and I are in this for the duration.

Some of the other’s things we are connected to include being part of the West Virginia Tech University baseball program, the Appalachian State University Field Hockey program and the Page County High School Softball program. There are a number of sports programs that we are connected to with the latest addition being the Athletic Department at Carroll County High School. The participation to the Golden Bear Baseball program goes back to 2008 as does the PCHS softball. Two of the three sites are built on sites I created roughly 15 years ago when we resided in the Shenandoah Valley.

I started writing back in 1978 and while I didn’t make my money with a pen or a keyboard its where I have found the most joy. I believe that the number of publications I have written for is somewhere in the 20-25 range with my favorite being my own sites because it allows me to choose the topics. One writer from a competing newspaper when I was covering Sports for the Northern Virginia Daily in Strasburg, Va. asked me after a game we both covered, ” Why do you try and cover every game like it’s the 7th game of the World Series?” The answer is because it is that important to the people I write my stuff for – the Student Athlete, the Parents, the Grandparents and the Coaches.

It’s that level of dedication to my thought process that will have me get in the car and drive to Covington here in a few hours. Yes, there should be very little drama in the Girls Varsity Basketball game tonight against Alleghany High School but if our Coaches, players and a handful of dedicated family members make that trek then they deserved to have it written about. The last trip up there ended with a pair of hard-fought exciting wins for our Boys Varsity and JV teams that thankfully people can still read about on our site.

The drive up tomorrow will be easier because of the performance of Marion Harris last night down in Abingdon!

Thanks to Marion Harris we can be live from the Swimming 🏊‍♂️ Pool in Abingdon !!!!

This post will end up being Historical in the journey as it is the PERFECT example of how my plan works

No one can possibly attend every sporting event but if the word gets out about the Goal of the site more people can follow the lead of Mr. Harris

Enough about that part…

I believe that the picture 📷 above is Ashley Shoup in the 200 Medley

This is a breakthrough night 🌙 for a two year journey. I will share everything Mr. H is willing to send along !

Safe travels to Marion and all of the Cavs as they head back up I-81!

P.S. – Me. Harris clearly has a much nicer camera on his phone than I do. Such Clearity !

One final look back on Saturday’s victory

When I first started to dream about the path of trying to create an online Sports presence designed for the sole purpose of covering the Cavaliers I looked for ways to try and partner with both of the weekly papers here in our area. Both papers, like so many across the Country are struggling to make ends meet and they provide the highest level of coverage that they can.

Saturday’s game was an example of an impressive win for the Lady Cavaliers and if I was going to be there anyway then I could frame a story that either paper could run for free.

With that idea in mind – here’s the third and final story about the 67-34 victory with this one designed to appear in a local weekly newspaper.

What would be different ? The story would have little to nothing about the opponent and would normally end with a mention of the next game.

Let’s get started :

Lady Cavaliers continue their winning ways with the latest victory a convincing 67-34 over Spotswood on Saturday in Lexington, Virginia.

The game, which pitted two teams that last met in the Class 3 State semifinals and while there was less riding on the outcome the Cavaliers once again got the best of the Trailblazers.

CCHS was playing for the second time inside of 24 hours after handling the James River Knights 81-19 at home on Friday.

Any concerns about the Cavaliers being tired were quickly laid to rest when they scored the first nine points of the game. The lead was 21-9 after one quarter and Spotswood never pulled within 10 points the remainder of the contest.

The most difficult time involving the game for Coach Mark Motley came afterwards when the Veteran Coach was asked if he was more impressed with his offense or his defense ?

[There would be a quote here because that would have been the first question I would have asked.]

Let’s start with the offense for no other reason then the results are easier to measure. Jaelyn Hagee led the attack with a team high 18 points but three of her teammates joined her in double figures.

Ashton Richardson finished with 15 points with nine of them coming in the second quarter. Lauren Alley finished with a unique double double as the Senior totalled 14 points and 14 rebounds. Alyssa Ervin worked around two early fouls, finishing with 11 points.

The defensive effort is harder to identify because they surrendered 34 points by comparison to just 19 night before. The only thing you need to know is that the difference between the two opponents offensive potential is equal to number of miles between the two courts the Cavaliers played the games on.

Both schools are led by highly successful Coaches who are both aware of the possibility that the two schools could see each other again next month in the post season. If there was any strategy in play from either side in regards to holding back part of their game incase of a rematch that would tougher for Motley because its hard to hide just how talented this team is and can be.

Carroll County travels West on Tuesday night to play at Alleghany High School. The game will be Varsity only as AHS doesn’t field a Junior Varsity team. Tip-off is set for 6:00. The Cavs will be playing at Floyd County on Friday night.

I hope it was as fun to read the 3 different stories in addition to the live blog as it was for me to write them. Gotta start resting up as that drive 🚗 over to Covington can be a smidgen long.

Go Cavs !
