Both squads came out in high gear ⚙, playing an upbeat and aggressive style. Eight minutes are in the books and we have a 13-13 tie.

While the first quarter played to a draw, the second one was the Elijah Cox show. Cox flexed his muscles on the offensive glass while outscoring FCHS 9-8 in the period.

Mix in solid team defense and a pair of 3-pointers, one each from Bryce Smoot and Jabin Talley and it adds up to a 30-21 halftime advantage for the Cavaliers.

Up and down third quarter that went the way of the Cavs 21-19. CCHS started the half out on fire 🔥, pushing the lead to 18 at 43-25. The Pioneers battled back but a balanced CCHS held them at bay

4:00 pm – Game underway

Pioneers lead 5-1 after the opening six minutes.

CCHS fell behind 5-0 inside the first three minutes but settled down on the defensive end and found its stride offensively.

Isaiah Easter and Jay Burnette poured in 5 and 6 points respectively in the second quarter, allowing the Cavaliers to take a 15-14 lead into the locker room. FCHS reached double figures in fouls midway through the second and could run into foul trouble late in the game.

Six minute quarters and eight minutes for half will have this game over very quickly.

Hayden Jackson drained the Cavaliers first 3-pointer of the contest and Easter added two baskets in the 3rd as CCHS stretched its lead to 25-22 after the quarter. Six more minutes to play

The Cavaliers turned up the defense in the final quarter, holding the Pioneers to just one made field goal while capturing the period 14-2.

CCHS closed out the scoring by draining 9 of 10 free throws in the closing minutes to win the contest 39-24. Easter finished with 15 points while Jackson added 9 and Burnette 8 more.

After the slow start the Cavaliers outscored Fort Chiswell 39-19 with the defense setting up the offense.
