Tunstall, coming off a 3 game sweep at Hidden Valley in its last match, appeared well on its way to another 3-0 defeat at the hands of the home standing Fort Defiance Indians.
Trailing 2-0 and a long, long way from Dry Fork the Trojans dug a little deeper and pulled out Game 3, 26-24 after dropping the first two contest by a combined score of 50-25.
There was no drama needed in Game 4 when the Trojans rolled to a convincing 25-15 victory to even the Match at 2-2. Fort Defiance finally found enough composure to capture Game 5 by a narrow margin of 15-12.
Congratulations to the Trojans for leaving it all on the court and further showing the strength of our Region !
Glenvar High School 🏫 is still carrying the flag for the District in the State Tournament and the Highlanders were back in action Saturday in Salem, hosting the John Battle Trojans.
Glenvar came out on fire 🔥 and the score in Game One was 21-5 before the Trojans could catch their breath. The remainder of the opening game leveled out but the damage had been done.
GAME #2
John Battle with an early 3-0 lead which might have poked the Bear 🐻
Glenvar 17-7, with the digs being as important as the kills.
Senior leadership that has already captured a State Title is a potent combination
Game 2 is in the books 📚! Glenvar will be looking for the sweep now. (3:42)
Carroll County finished the season with just four blemishes on their record and those losses came at the hands of three very talented teams. Two of the trio are still playing games in the State Tournament and here’s a look at their latest results.
The Regional tournament is now complete as Hidden Valley proved to be too much for Tunstall this week. Both schools return to action Saturday with HVHS playing at home while Tunstall travels up to Fort Defiance to face the Indians in the State Quarterfinals.
Glenvar is still representing the Three Rivers District after sweeping Appomattox County. The next step will also be on the back at home to face John Battle High School Saturday at 3pm.
Now that the Volleyball season is officially over its time to look at the most impressive statistics from the 2022-2023 seasons for the Junior Varsity and Varsity squads.
While there were plenty of Kills, Dinks, Assists and Blocks to dive into I would like to take a look at the number of miles driven by the team and the family and friends supporting them over the past few months.
There were 12 trips taken with 8 of them being combined for both teams and 2 each individually.
Both teams traveled down to Patrick County – Glade Springs for tournaments on consecutive weekends back in early September and the JV headed back to James River for the postseason while the Varsity traveled to Tunstall last night.
The JV teams traveled an unofficial total of 693 miles ONE WAY and the Varsity landed on 680 miles ONE WAY. Someone traveling to support both of the teams would have logged 854 miles to do so (1,708 total).
Those numbers don’t include Game tickets or concessions / meals on the road. Don’t forget the number of Home games that also require admission yet night after night the Parents and Grandparents packed up their vehicles and made the drives without hesitation to be in the stands.
While the young Ladies deserve an absolute pat on the back for their efforts 👏 I think the road warriors that followed them around do just as well.
Tonight’s the night 🌙 that every talented High School Volleyball team in the Old Dominion has waited for all season long. All across the State teams will face off in Regional Semifinal play with each squad looking to punch its ticket 🎟 to VHSL State tournament.
Our Cavs boarded the school bus one more time as the team headed over to Dry Fork for a clash with the undefeated Tunstall Trojans.
The action is set to get underway at 6pm and the Bus pulled in at 4:02 after a slight delay just on the East side of Lovers Leap. A victory tonight over the Trojans would carry CCHS into the Final Eight with the next opponent being the winner of tonight’s other semi – #1 Hidden Valley vs #4 London Botetourt.
Much more to come as the night progresses.
While a 172 mile loop would be the longest Road Trip of a season more most High School teams in a given season I’m not sure it makes the Top 5 for the Road Warriors of CCHS.
This past Saturday morning the core group of the VB Family 👪 completed the 198 mile loop to James River High School and back as the Junior Varsity squad played in the JV tournament.
Counting the JV tournament tonight makes 11 for the number of road trips. Using a starting point of the Carroll County High School the number of unofficial miles after tonight is 779 miles each way.
Yes – 779 miles One Way !!!!
When you add the early season JV tournament at Patrick Henry – Glade Springs it makes the numbers 12 trips and 854 1 Way miles.
One of the issues at this round of competition is the lack of common opponents. This time we have Bassett High School 🏫 as the measuring stick.
Tunstall swept Bassett in their two regular season matches, both of which were played at the end of the regular season. CCHS trailed Bassett 21-19 in Game #1 before stringing together six straight points to close out the game. The Cavs then took care of business 25-15 and 25-15 to complete their own sweep.
5:52 – Both teams are finishing up their warm-ups and will be getting underway soon.
Senior leadership should be strong enough for the Trojans

Top seed Hidden Valley added another sweep to their impressive season and will host Tunstall for the Region Championship
