Carroll County Volleyball 🏐 looks to keep the MOJO going at home vs James River

Earlier this week Carroll County High School traveled up to Radford and ran the table as both the Junior Varsity and the Varsity squads swept their Bobcats counterparts. It’s hard to improve on a 5 for 5 effort but with the post season right around the corner the Cavilers looked to keep things rolling in the right direction.

Once again the Junior Varsity squad started the night πŸŒ™ off in an impressive manner. The Cavilers made quick work of the visiting Knights playing with a great deal of confidence throughout the match. After closing out the opening game Coach performed a minor wardrobe change.

Off came the University of North Carolina hoodie, revealing a T- Shirt πŸ‘• reading I Coach Champs on the front and his players signatures across the back.

Instead of the normal 20:00 on the clock ⏰ in between matches tonight showed 30:00 as a very touching ceremony took place in between games.

Each player was asked to pen a brief essay naming their favorite teacher and a few words describing the reason why they were chosen for the honor.

The student section was as creative as you would like them to be.

All three sets in the Varsity match started out in the exact same manner. James River took an early lead only to watch helplessly as the Cavilers rolled through in a manner that was full of balance possibly not on display this season.

The Cavs were clicking throughout their entire rotation as whomever was next up to the net was mixing dinks with massive kills. The best word to describe the effort was Spurtability.

I’m not sure if that is a real word or if I just made it up but it certainly fits here.

Game #1 – James River leads 9-5 before CCHS ties it at 14 and uses a second spurt of 11-3 to close it out at 25-17

Game #2 – James River jumps out to a 7-3 lead before the Cavs tied it at 10 before closing it out on a 15-5 spurt.

No reason to switch it up in the closeout game as James River led 8-5 early before a 15-5 spurt pushed it to 20-13 and the only thing remaining was the final score (25-15).

The Cavilers now have one week remaining with a home match on Tuesday vs Alleghany and a short trek over to Floyd County on Thursday night.

Radford made its push for the #3 spot in the District Thursday night πŸŒ™ as the Bobcats captured a 3-1 victory over Floyd County. Both squads were 3-4 at the start of the evening as was James River. Glenvar will take the District title with CCHS soundly in the number 2 spot.

Radford (4-4), James River (3-5) and Floyd County (3-5) will duke it out for the remaining spot in the upper half of the League standings.
