Filling in some of the Blanks – Palooza Update for Sunday October 23rd

There are two events that will be held on Sunday October 23rd, 2011. These two events will wrap up the week-end festival and hopefully be the items that put us over the top in our efforts to Fence in Alan Knight Field @ Panther Park.

The day was scheduled with the hopes of not interfering with Sunday morning Church services around the Valley. The Ryder Cup golf match will get under way with a 12:30 meeting at the Caverns Country Club in Luray with the first foursome taking the tee box at 1:00 p.m. sharp.

—————————————————————————————————————

Once the final group turns in the scorecard the site will shift back to the campus of Page County High School where the Spaghetti Dinner & Live Auction will take place from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. All golfers will receive a ticket to the dinner as part of their entry fee to compete. For all others the cost of the dinner is $10.00 but the meal in this case is just the appetizer. It was our goal to have 100 items to auction off and we have met that goal thanks to the kind folks that make up our Valley. Mr.Kerry Painter of Old Dominion Auctions will be lending his services to the cause it was should prove to be one of the highlights of the week-end. To join in on the fun make sure to bring your check book!

Ryder Cup Match Update : Handful of spots remain for both squads

While both Playing Captains (PCHS-Alan Knight) and Bill Meade (International) are busy signing up golfers rumor has it that there are a number of spots still available.

The match will take place at The Caverns Country Club in Luray with the meeting at 12:30 p.m.

Cost for golfers is $60.00 but current students can join the fun for just $40.00. The current rate to play at the Caverns on a Sunday afternoon is $55.00 if you are riding 18 holes so for a mear $5.00 more you can join in on what promises to me a golf match to remember. When you factor in your free ticket to the dinner back at Page County High School you actually come out ahead!

If you are interested in playing you can contact Bill, Alan or giving the office here a call at 540-743-4660. This number is a 24/7 voicemail so you are welcomed to call anytime you would like.

The Ryder Cup Matches set for Sunday now have Playing Captains. Page County High School Softball Coach Alan Knight will lead the PCHS squad as they match wits against Page County News & Courier Sports Editor Bill Meade and his International Squad.

They matches will get under way at the Caverns Country Club in Luray shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Each team has 12 spots on its roster and the matches will be played using all 3 current Ryder Cup formats. The formats are as follows: (With a little help from Wikipedia)

A foursomes match is a competition between two teams of two golfers. The golfers on the same team take alternate shots throughout the match, with the same ball. Each hole is won by the team that completes the hole in the fewest shots. A fourball match is also a competition between two teams of two golfers, but all four golfers play their own ball throughout the round rather than alternating shots, and each hole is won by the team whose individual golfer has the lowest score. A singles match is a standard match play competition between two golfers.

Each team will have 4 golfers compete in all 3 of the categories in what should prove to be a fun day on the links.

Next up in the Home Run Derby – Dan Simpson of the Washington Post

As some of you know the main contract for us here at Crystal Clear Delivery is the Washington Post. When we asked Mr.Jeff Johnson at the Post if they could get on board we received a very quick response that included both support of the event and participation in both the softball game and the Home Run Hitting Contest. Zone Manager Dan Simpson will be dusting off the HR swing and has promised to send a few softballs over the fence!

They will also be bringing some items for the auction as well as some door prizes!
