One more stop then the Golden Bears return to East Bank!

Road Warriors set to return home on Wednesday

Head Coach Lawrence Nesselrodt and his West Virginia Tech Golden Bears have just one more stop on their 10 day road trip that took them from East Bank to Daytona Beach, Florida and then over to Rio Grande, Ohio. The young squad has played five double headers and will cap the trip with a single contest at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at Shawnee State (Portsmouth, Ohio) before returning home to host King College in another double-header on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 P.M.

WVT (5-15) will play at home six times over the next 11 days before hitting the road once again.

The Wrong Side of the Fence : Knee injury ends senior season for Jaclyn Ayers

Strasburg senior Jaclyn Ayers sits with her Mother as her Rams play Luray.

The world of sports is filled with clichés such as in boxing where it is common to hear “pound for pound the best boxer out there”. There are a number of ways to describe the efforts of Jaclyn Ayers during her days of wearing the Purple & White and pound for pound might be at the top of the list. The volleyball court, the basketball court or the softball diamond could not contain the efforts of  Ayers over the past four years until a knee injury against George Mason ended her playing days.

It is only fitting that the injury took place when Ayers went hard to the basket in the early moments of her team’s playoff contest against  the eventual State Champion Mustangs. Hard nosed play at all times was the calling card for the 5’8 setter/guard/pitcher and it might be a while before an athlete comes around with the ability to look like a natural regardless of the uniform being worn that given day.

Thursday afternoon Head Coach Suzanne Mathias and her Rams traveled down to Luray for their season opening softball game against the Bulldogs. Ayers was set to enjoy her final season as a Ram but that all changed February 26TH on the court at Eastern Mennonite University in the Region B semi-final. The injury cut short the amazing run that Ayers and fellow senior Jenna Smoot had enjoyed under the direction of Head Coach Joel Morgan as the duo posted a record of 62-11 over the past three seasons.

One final time to shine for the Rams as well as play along side little sister Katlyn, a sophomore pitcher on the softball team, went by the books. Knee surgery awaits but that wasn’t going to prevent Ayers from attending the opening game for her beloved Rams.

In the stands with Mom & Dad to support her little sister and her teammates. Yes, Jaclyn Ayers was back in the ball park but for all of those that have enjoyed her efforts over her days in Strasburg, she was on the wrong side of the fence. A sincere Thank You for all of your efforts over the years & GODSPEED with the recovery process!
